JUDGE: Chung King vs. Bringin' It Down
There were some references to the Chung King release on another thread, so I thought I'd thow the question out there... Which Judge recording
do you prefer, Bringin' It Down or Chung King?
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the difference, here's a little explanation from the back of the sleeve:
JUDGE Recorded this album at Chung King Studios in New York City. It was originally going to be called 'Bringin' It Down'. They spent thousands
recording, and we, Revelation Records, spent thousands bringing it to the brink of production. We were at a rest stop in Germany during the Youth Of
Today tour when we, upon phoning Mike, the vocalist, found out that he didn't like the album and wanted to scrap it. What choice did we have? We sent
the band to a real studio to re-record 'Bringin' It Down' and put this album out as a tribute to the thousands lost.
Revelation got a good deal of flak for inflationary prices that this record managed to aquire although Revelation never actually sold one for more
than mail order price. In fact the only way these were distributed by Rev was either as a gift or through mail order to those people who ordered
"Bringin' It Down' before it was ready.
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

I've had people call me stupid for this but I didn't think the Chung King recording was as good. I've got to go with Bringin' It Down.

Chung King, by far. Bringing It Down just didn't have the same power to me. In fact I sold my copy of B. I. D. quite a while ago, but still have my
Chung King Can Suck It ten inch.

I'd have to go with Bringin' it Down because I haven't heard Chung King
Funny thing in my night class History of Rock tonight we got into hardcore and punk and he put on judge. I was the only one to let out a "YES!" and
mouthed along to take me away and air drummed hahaha. Then we started talking about scandinavian death metal and shit, but I was really surprised that
kids that I have talked to in class that say they are into hardcore never heard them.
Felt the need to share.

Chung King test presses on ebay go for thousands.

What's the deal with Lost & Found. I've heard so many people say they hate them but nobody says why. I'm pissed off about something I bought from
them but I don't think my shitty purchase is why they're hated.

Lost and Found is for the most part a giant bootlegger. Most of the records released by them are not approved by the bands and they usually don't pay
the bands a dime. I've heard story after story about bands getting ripped off by those guys.
Speaking of bootlegs, the Chung King record I have is the 10 inch that's called Revelation Can Suck It, Boycott. It was released to protest Revelation
for selling the very few copies of the unofficially released Chung King Sessions LP at insane prices. It's practically a how to manual on making
bootleg copies of that record, they put slightly altered artwork on the 10 inch, but an insert has the real artwork copied with notes on how to make
everything look real. For example, the label is listed as "Revoltation" and there's a picture of one of the Judge hammers pounding the Revalation star
logo.
OK, here's what it says on the back of my copy, "This record was originally put out by Revelation Records, and limited to 100 copies. In turn, those
records were given to the reeallly cool scenesters, or sold for $250 on the collectors market. When we heard about this record we were pissed at the
shameless pandering to the bloated egos of the elite in-crowd, while simultaneously turning a quick buck selling products to "the kids". We did the
only noble thing possible. We put this out as a tribute to the thousands who would otherwise never been able to hear it, and to let the world know;
Revelation can suck it!" One of the two inserts for it has the lyrics on one side and a HUGE rant on the other side that basically goes into much more
detail than the paragraph I copied for you up there, but basically says the same thing. The other insert, as I mentioned, has the original artwork and
gives a breakdown of the colors to use to print it yourself.
