framing a painting?
does anyone know if they make a frame specificly for framing
a painting on a canvas?
or anybody know the best way to do it?

if you're getting an actual canvas framed, i'd take it to a frame shop and get it done professionally.
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

It can get pretty pricey. You can goto a pro frame shop that sells frames in addition to making them custom. As long as its a standard size you should
be able to buy a frame and do it yourself with a little advice from the people at the store. It will save you some serious money!

You can sometime get nice frames at antique/junk shops for a decent price if they come with a lousy print in them.

Ask for sectional framing kits and ask the store about using them to frame a painting on a canvas. I have only framed pannels canvas wtih them and
not box canvas's since I like the look of a box canvas on the wall (thought i know it offers no protection)

Yeah i figured getting it professionaly framed would be serious $.
thats why i want to try and do it myself.
the canvas is 16" x 20", and 3/4" thick.

Like I said, I have never framed a 3/4" thick canvas but I usually get the 2 sectional framing kits I need (they come in set sizes for each side, one
set of 16 inch pieces and one set of 20 inch pieces). Then I hit up a glass shop (since craft places charge WAY too much) and get the glass I need.
I THINK I have seen framing kits for 3/4" canvas, but I am not positive. Framing kits run between 7-12 dollars a set on average (for sizes like that)
so you MIGHT be able to get away with framing the whole thing for $30 or so.

That give you a 1 3/4" frame depth to work with, and the kits come with little clips to put in the back to make everything fit nice and snug. Just
make sure the depth is deep enough for the canvas, glass, and a little bit of room for the clips and your all set.
