looks pretty generic, but back then I was only exposed to what other people i hung with, or knew, had in their collections.
it's crazy when you think about it. back then there was no MySpace, Soulseek, websites with demos or songs you can listen to.

you're definitely right about the limited influences back then.
it was all about what your friends were listening to.
hardcore came to me at about the same time from the guys i skated with (who were listening to philly & nyc hardcore bands) and my metalhead friends
(anthrax, coc, etc).
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

passes as hardcore now? Damn, I feel sorry for those kids
Not all of these may be considered hardcore, but they gave me "that" feeling, like something important had just landed on my ears.

I got introduced with kids I skated with too, alot of it was on mixed tapes, so I guess I'll just name bands.
Black Flag, Minor Threat, Suicidal Tendancies, Bad Brains, 7 Seconds, the FUs, Agnostic Front. First local stuff or at least that I realizied was
local were Slapshot and Blood For Blood.

I didn't really know what hardcore was until about 1989...I'm from NC,so there wasn't too many hardcore kids around...I was always into metal before
that.I had No internet,no hc/punk friends,hell I never even heard the term Hardcore...But I do remember the first time I heard it.I rode my bike to a
local music store (Camelot Music) one day with just a few dollars in my pocket,and they had a big bin in the middle of the store with cassette tapes
for like $1.99 or something.I found a tape that had a cool cover called "FREE FOR ALL",it was a compilation put out by Hawker records...it had
Wrecking Crew,Token Entry,Rest in Pieces and No for an Answer...live at CBGB's.After hearing Token Entry do Jaybird and that huge sing-a-long...I was
hooked.I sent a SASE to Hawker Records...and thats how I first started ordering my Hardcore tapes and zines.I started getting catalogs and zines in
the mail every other day.
I guess my first few would be something like this:

Fuck, that's a looooooooooooooong way back to remember...
I know the first tape I got my hands on that was Hard Core was a homemade cassette with Black Flag on one side and The Big Boys on the other. After
that it's all jumbled, but I know that C.O.C., DRI, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, Circle Jerks, Suicidal Tendencies, and Bad Brains were all in there very
early on for me. I had listened to a lot of Punk stuff before that, but nothing that I would consider HC. I think some of the first things I heard
that turned me onto Punk were The Stooges and The Cramps, then that Black Flag/Big Boys tape blew my mind and I searched out every variation of Punk
that I could find.
