the SSD ripoff roadshow...

There is absolutely no truth to any speculation that SSD will be performing this summer. The fact is original vocalist David Spring "Springa" is assembling a band of hired guns to tour and rip off the public playing under the name SSD. Due to his selfish actions David Spring has officially been terminated from ALL association with the band SSD. His attempt to recreate SSD in 2008 will utterly fail and I hope the public will not attend his performances and if they do they make it as miserable as possible for him to remain on stage safely. I know I personally will make every attempt to make him pay for his corrupt, cheating selfish actions. SSD will always be a team with integrity. It's unfortunate that a fat overweight "has been" and "nobody" will try to fool the public under the mighty moniker SSD.

His overall contribution to what made SSD such a special band is so far under the radar and almost next to zero. Anybody intimately involved and close to the band understands his contribution. The real fact is that the band had to go out of it's way to compensate for his talent, work ethic and criminal behavior.

I feel bad for those fans who have been waiting for a chance to see the band but attending this Dave Springa performance is a travesty and borderline criminal. He is a terrible human being and I'm not just saying this now. He is basically the reason the band dissolved. Our relationship has been civil since we stopped playing but clearly after then band dissolved his musical and organizational ability pretty much guaranteed his ability to get to get zero accomplished. He couldn't write a song if it fell in his lap. Having said that, I have been monitoring this potential SSD rippoff roadshow for sometime and I have done my best to discourage it through various legal and illegal tactics. I have actually held off some royalties and payments to hold over his over his head and help him make the right decision. He is basically following the business model laid out by Cliff from the Freeze, Chris Doherty from Gang Green, Choke from Slapshot, I can only speculate but I believe their motives are clear. I hate to throw anybody under the bus but I'm sure this support system of 40 year olds living in the past has helped David Spring organize the tour.

Motives
1) Rip off the public as 40 plus year olds playing music made by kids and capitaize on American Hardcore Movie
2) Make enough money to buy their alcohol, drugs and coke and whatever else
3) Pounce on as many foreign chicks who think these American punk rock stars are special and give them 20 year old pussies . Hopefully they will give them something else as well
4) Escape their miserable lives and US wifes and girlfriends to pursue their sexual fantisies
5) Hopefully come back to US with enough money so they can collect unemployment and continue their life avoiding a disciplined work schedule in which you wake up and go to work. They will repeat the cycle every two tears

If it wasn't for my efforts, Springa would have justified this plan and pulled this shit sooner. It seems like he might pull it off this time but I am a fucking fighter and I don't take well to people ripping me off and tarnishing the name of my band. I am assemblng a network of supporters who will help do everything possible to make him uncomfortable and fearful for his safety at each show. If he gets close to the Boston New York area then I will execute the plan. My goal is to make the tour fall apart due to poor attendance, hopefully get the promotors to back off after my legal representative serve papers. I would also appeal to the general public to understand when they are getting ripped off and for them to NOT BELIEVE that this lineup is NOT SSD. It's just a fat overweight scumbag breaking ranks from the band. He must be stopped.

Please share this letter to anybody or punk rock news outlet.
It's time to put a stop to these rogue motherfuckers who have no integrity. Anyone who can help make David Springs life miserable will be on my list of close friends who I will be entirely indebted to and hopefully I can repay the favor somehow.

thanks

Alan Barile
Leader SSD

Yeah I head about the shirts, but what were they? I mean there are tons of bootleg SSD shirts, what was different about those? Pictures or info?

thats wicked shitty. If people are going to bootleg thats one thing, but saying that the shirts are 'official' is really shitty!!

You know what, the guy really had me on his side.

But the moment he went on about Gang Green and Slapshot capitalizing on American Hardcore, I just stopped reading. That shit is stupid. He just started ranting complete bullshit.

Any idea what that means about Choke? Kinda surprised this came from Honus without a comment. Just the idea of "cashing in" as Slapshot? Seems like there's a big difference between playing as a band with a pretty consistent line-up over the years (Slapshot) versus having one guy from a band tour using the name.

I think he was saying that Choke, Chris Doherty and Cliff Hanger are just in it for the money and that they are cashing in on the renewed popularity since American Hardcore.

#1. of all the Boston bands SSD was the only one prominetly featured in American Hardcore.
#2. at this point pretty much everyband that isnt made up of 16-25 year olds is in it for some sort of money.
#3. Random is right. Slapshot has had a consistant line up for 7 years now and 7 years ago they just got a new guitar player. Choke, Mark & Chris have been together since 16 Valve Hate. At this point the only originaly member in Ganggreen is Chris Doherty, but the other 3 guys are from Jerrys Kids so they are all Olde Tyme guys.
#4. If you think that Slapshot, Ganggreen and The Freeze are in it for the money cant the same be said about The Bosstones, Negative Approach, Bad Brains etc?
#5. Who owns the name SSD? If Springa does then he has the right to tour as SSD with whoever else he wants in the band.

Sounds to me like someone has a good job and he can't leave it for a tour.

I understand his issues and I won' t go see the show if it ever comes to Clevo. Nothing more crappy than a band with only one remaining member acting like he is the whole band. Kind of ruins the effect of being a band. Anyway, which dude was the one in the AMERICAN HARDCORE vid? I know there was 2 from this band but which ones?

I thought it was a full band reunion in American Hardcore. At the very least Springa is in the movie. Hes the one driving the beat up black van.

Oh yeah... also.....

what about Murphys Law.... for the last 10 years of touring it has been Jimmy G and 3 other guys. Its a constint revolving line up. The Meatmen has been Tesco and 3 young guys for YEARS!

I dont know Al or Springa, but that email makes Al look like more of a jerk off than Springa!

Dude, MURPHYS LAW is a somehting else. Its a creation of JIMMY G and not others. YOu go to hear him talk and sing the greatest tunes. Its a good time. SSD on the other hand I have no idea. Never been a fan so I can't judge I guess. I think its shitty for A BAND to do this. MURPHYS LAW is not a band without JIMMY G.

Aside from the comment about Choke, I'm with Al Barile on this one. He was always the driving force of SSD and it was HIS band, not Springa's. I love SSD, but I would never go see them play without Barile on guitar.

Just curious... do you agree with his comments about Chris Doherty/GangGreen and Cliff Hanger/The Freeze?

Yes and no. I'm on the fence with those two, but I love both bands so I don't mind them making a few bucks off of them because they had more of a part in those bands than Springa did in SSD.

Gang Green was still going well into the 90's.. they never just stopped like The Freeze or SSD did.

I think I see it differently....

I totally agree with Clevo that it doesnt matter who is in Murphys Law as long as its Jimmy G. I was just sighting them as an example.

As far as The Freeze goes, I thought that the band currently playing as The Freeze was made up of the original members. If that is the case then I see nothing wrong with what they are doing.

Slapshot as more or less been an active band since 1985. They never formally 'broke up' or said 'this is our last show' and consiquently they have never done a 'reunion'. Plus if Slapshot was really only playing for the money and they wanted to cash in then they could take the same 4 guys in the band now, learn the 14 songs and do some shows as a 'Negative FX' reunion. If they did THAT then I would say that Al could compare them to what Springa is trying to do.

GangGreen did go on into the 90's like DeathByForce said. Then they broke up and now they are reunited, kind of. Last I knew the GangGreen that plays now is Chris Doherty with 3 members of Jerrys Kids. So technically thats not GangGreen, but the guys from Jerrys Kids are old timers too so I dont see a problem with that.

hell... to be honest I dont see a problem with many bands doing things to make some money now. Most of them never made any when they were first around so why not try to make a little.

Like 'The Misfits'... The Misfits that Jerry Only has put together really suck, but I dont fault him for trying to make some money. I think its sad, but I understand it.

'The Dead Kennedys'... I think it sucks that they cant all get along and tour with Jello singing, but I dont fault the other 3 guys for going out and playing those songs and making some cash.

No one bitched when Rollins did a 'Black Flag' tour. I know it was for charity which makes a little bit of a difference, but bottom line it was basicly The Rollins Band doing a set of covers with the exception of the 2-3 songs that Keith Morris sang.

One of the biggest things to take into consideration is that if people didnt go see them and buy the stuff then they wouldnt do it. So when 'The Dead Kennedys' play a show, or 'The Misfits' people (young and old) get to see them and most are happy with it.

What they gotta' do is stop airing their dirty laundry in public and fucking deal with it, or don't. What I'm really sick of is forty something scene vets bickering like a bunch of little bitches. No wonder half the kids act the way they do with these dickwads as examples.
And I'm not just talkin' about SSD, I could give two fucks about SSD, I'm talkin' about all the fools who participate in any sort of public slander, sort it out like men, or shut the fuck up and go home.

Well, its this place where nobody works, and the pigs don\'t give you any shit. Everyone smokes weed and gets drunk all day. Its a place where cunts like me and you can truly take it easy and relax. Know what I mean?
