Best scene overall

Which scene do you think has put out the best bands over the years, including punk, hardcore, and oi!

Ten years ago, I would have said New York in a heartbeat. These days, looking back over the last 30 years, I have to go with Boston.

From these choices I would say Boston, but I really like a lot of stuff from all over the place and a lot of my favorites come from nowhere near any of these cities. I guess Midwest would include some of the ones I was thinking of, but it seems a bit odd to name off a bunch of cities and then have a big region thrown in there. Also, I know you being Canadian means you feel a need to throw something in from up there, but is there really enough from out that way for it to even compete?

And Steve is right, Texas should really be on the list. Just off the top of my head, you've got Big Boys, Dicks, DRI, Really Red, MDC, and The Offenders.

Vancouver but no Montreal or Toronto? :o

A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

I should have included Texas. I didn't think there should be too long which is why I skipped the rest of the world. I meant to add "other" as an option but forgot.

As for Vancouver, I think Dayglo Abortions, DOA, Subhumans, Pointed Stix, etc deserve mention amongst others.

The best scene is the one you come from. I don't think you can pass judgment on such a thing if you were never their to experience it.
