torrents

I seem to hear people talking about how torrent files are they way to download stuff. However when I try to download a file via torrent its slow as fuck and sometimes does nothing at all. If im right the idea behind it is for people with the program to share it with others and the downloader pulls certain files from different peers to get the file quicker. I have never found a torrent that was faster or more reliable then directly downloading the file as one from a site. Anyone have any suggestions on how to speed up the download process or does it just boil down to how many peers/seeds there are?

Use Azureus 2.5.0.4 and make sure you go to portforward.com and ensure all torrent ports are properly configured for your modem.

Public sites will always suck due to high number of peers and low number of seeders.

Private sites will generally be much faster and well seeded, and the selection endless.

The number of peers in the cluster will impact the speed, also if they have any upload limits in place. Upload bandwidth is always much lower than download bandwidth so unless there's a good seeder count, downloading will be slow.

Get into private sites, I got invites to a bunch depending what specifically you're after.

A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

Thanks Mike

I got the program and tried the port forward.com site. I could only get so far because the username/password for my router I cannot seem to get right. It should be the default but I dont know what happened.

Right now im looking for any documentary's by Joseph Campbell. If you could give me an invite to a site that has any of his stuff that would be awesome.

I HIGHLY suggest also using an IP filter unless you like being sued.

An IP filter? I had no idea such a thing existed.

I am not good enough with computers to use the shit. I don't need my files being broadcasted all over the internet. And I am very paranoid when it comes to getting "illegal" files.

Soulseek is different, it's 1 on 1 downloading direct from 1 peer rather than pieces from multiple sources. Soulseek is basically a continuation of Napster or slightly resembling IRC transfers.

Can't find anything on the sites I'm on.

BitMe.org if you can get in could have it as they have a load of doco's and learning stuff.

Karagarga also has documentaries and rare video, nothing mainstream.

My membership to Kray has passed away, I never used it.

Yeah so far everything I've been looking for is on What & Waffles. I uploaded 2 albums to Kray and that was it, never downloaded. Kerrazy was good for packs and discogs but couldn't guarantee quality was going to be good and I got sick of the ads.

the mininova link for joseph campbell was pretty good. has almost all the files i can find elsewhere. you might get some more seeders if you search through btjunkie.com or youtorrent.com. they search multiple public sites. bitme has one or two that aren't on mininova. karagarga only has two that are also on mininova.

if you're just getting started with torrents i'd stick with the public sites for a while or semi-public ones like demonoid. private sites demand you upload a certain percentage of what you download. can be pretty difficult if your ports aren't forwarded and you only half know what you're doing.
