16 Secrets The Restaurant Industry Doesn't Want You to Know

i thought XnMeX might dig this:

http://health.msn.com/nutrition/articlepage.aspx?cp-documentid=100187534>1=31036

Quote:
What does the restaurant industry have to hide? A lot, apparently. A hidden force behind America's obesity epidemic is the fact that many chain restaurants-which provide one-third of all restaurant meals, according to the New York Department of Health-obfuscate the fat and calorie counts of their menu items, and fight any attempt to shed light on what, exactly, is going on between their buns and inside their taco shells.

Last summer, when coauthor Matt Goulding and I began researching Eat This, Not That, we were shocked by how far restaurants were willing to go to hide their nutritional info from our prying eyes. So we conducted our own scientific testing, consulted with nutrition experts, and did some good old-fashioned snooping. In the end, we uncovered countless secrets these mega-restaurateurs had been keeping. The 16 most mind-blowing are below, but they just scratch the surface, really.

Since Eat This, Not That hit bookstores in December 2007, it's become a bestseller. And, in one city anyway, the hide-the-calories game has gotten a bit tougher—a new law in New York City compels restaurants to list calorie data. (Similar legislation was first passed in 2006, but only took effect in June because it had to survive several legal challenges from—you guessed it—the restaurant industry.) But, for the most part, little has changed.

So it's no wonder that . . .

Thanks for posting! I LOVE stuff like this.

I don't agree with giving crap to places like TGI Fridays and Applebees that list there low fat food information facts... Guess what? If it isn't in their "500 calories / 10 grams of fat or less" section, then you don't want to know and should not be eating it if you are worried about numbers. As for places that list nothing, then you don't know if there is anything "safe", which makes them lose my business so fuck em'!

The reason the initial link didn't work was because of the carot (>) right before the final one. I have found that a lot of the time when you post links here it either does that or puts a _ somewhere

Here's my thing, I think we all know that eating out is just plain shitty for your health. It is not a big secret. The general public needs to take responsibility and make healthier choices. The best way to start doing that is to eat properly prepared food at home. If you are on the go, plan ahead.

Do I indulge in foods on this list in the article? Probably. I eat out from time to time. When I pack on a few pounds, I sure as hell don't blame anyone but myself.

Eat what you want right? Just don't blame anyone else but you if you become overweight. I say eat up and enjoy! Just don't bitch.

It really is fucking crazy how many calories are in those foods. WOW!
