SHEER TERROR Contest Winners

OK, this is a bit overdue, but we had a number of compelling essay submissions, so it took us a while to come to a unaminous decision. So without further adue...

The 50th person to order "Beaten By The Fists Of God" from the Thorp Store was Jason Pinajian of Coral Springs, FL. Congratulations, Jason! We'll be sending you a silk screened poster from the reunion show and the Thorp shirt of your choice.

As I mentioned, choosing a winner in the essay contest was tough. We got about two dozen entries, which is more than I expected (we were asking hardcore kids to write an essay after all), including two compelling entries (for very different reasons) from Thorp Board regulars MrBadVibes and GabeTexasGAMC. However, the winner of our "What Sheer Terror Means To Me" contest, after much debate, is Chris Collins. Chris wins a copy of "Beaten By The Fists Of God", a silk screened poster from the reunion show, and the Thorp shirt of his choice.

Thanks to everyone who participated in our contest and has supported Thorp Records by buying the Sheer Terror release through our online store. We've gotten a lot of positive feedback so far, and are looking forward to the CD/DVD hitting the streets tomorrow.

If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

Here's the winning essay

What does Sheer Terror mean to me? Sheer Terror is just something to relate
too, as simple as that. When your life is full of pain and resentment
towards the entire world you need a way out, something you can relate too. I
think my outlook on life is complimented very well by the music and the
message of Sheer Terror.

The funny thing is when I was a kid I guess I found Sheer Terror appealing
only because of the music. I knew the lyrics but I just didn?t understand
them. As I got older I started to see what a rotten and sick world it is
that we live in. When I found out how the world really works a total hatred
and disregard for everything in this world started to grow in my mind.
That?s about the time I truly understood the poetic philosophies of Paul
Bearer. That?s when I started relating to Sheer Terror lyrically and
musically. The music makes the lyrics and the lyrics are the music;
murderous, pummeling and reeking of pure fucking hatred, both musically and
lyrically. Time after time when this world crushes the hopes and dreams out
of you, you feel isolated; like you?re the only one. Listening to Sheer
Terror through the years I learned that I am not the only one. There are
thousands living in this working class nightmare we call life and Sheer
Terror is our marching band. Sheer Terror was never about glamour and glitz,
just raw blaring hatred. I am so sick of seeing all these rich kids and
there bands crying about this and that; they have no idea what real life is
like. I just want you all to know how I feel about Sheer Terror but I am
going to give you a bonus; I think the current state of hardcore is a joke,
there needs to be another band like Sheer Terror to come out and tell
everyone to fuck off. Anyways that?s about it, that?s Sheer Terror to me in
a nutshell. Pleas do me a favor don?t hand out free cd?s to suburban rich
kids who could buy the damn things anyways; give them out to the fighting
poor that can?t afford these DVD?s and cd?s anyways. You might just make
some poor saps day, I know listening to Sheer Terror on these drunken
afternoons brings a smile to my face.

THE END.

PS Thanks for putting out a Sheer Terror DVD, thats a real tits idea.
