How much cushion do you have?
All this recent financial news got me thinking...
'They' say you're supposed to have three to six months of living expenses available in savings as a cushion in case of emergency.
How much have you got?
(in terms of duration, not amount)
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

4 to 6 thanks to Mrs. R83. We are on spending lock down. We never have credit card balances either.

none of the above...
I owe more money it seems than the government
I owe about 25 jobs worth of shirts right now, which is better than it was 2 weeks ago
and every penny that would go to profit, savings, or bills is going into catching up...
but the more I catch up the further behind it seems I am getting in other areas...
I am operating 2 households and locations so our monthly bills are about 15k a month
so for me to have 45 to 90 thousand in the bank would be a fucking miracle.
hell I wok up again this morning to another negative balance in our account thanks to a distributor double charging my account...
everytime I get a few large put away something comes along and bends me over...
I am seriously looking at moving everything to Korea and forgetting the U.S. even exists...
we have 0 credit at this point, we can not get credit...
it's us against the world and we are losing our grip...
basically if they come for me I wont even have the shirt on my back,
and sometimes I wish they would hurry the fuck up about it.

two months currently.
four by the end of the year.
bills are starting to come in for the boy's recent hospital stay, though.
trying to figure out how to deal with that, and still hit the four month cushion by the end of the year.
the plan is to pay 1/4 immediately and the remainder in installments or on a 0% credit card.
i've got the money to pay it, but i work on a contract basis...i can't stomach not having cash on hand.
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

nothing. I am in debt. School loans, credit cards car lease.

Im lucky enough to be in the 4-6 month catagory. I could have more, but I buy to much stuff. Again, luckily I buy stuff that (most of the time) could
be resold for a decent amount of money so I could probably drum up another couple of months if I sold stuff off.
That being said... I'm still worried about the way that things are going.

I'm estimating 4-6 months, but that's only because we've been so focused on saving lately with the goal of buying a house come spring/summer. We've
basically been trying to live off of my wife's paychecks and sock mine away. I guess if anything happens from now until the spring/summer we're ok.
We do have some debt though it's manageable.
So pretty much we're good until we put all of our savings into a home. Then we'll be back to month to month for a while. We don't plan on buying a
house that's out of our means though.

Shirt on my back. I live paycheck to paycheck and at this rate I won't be able to rent my own place for a long time. Work is bullshit, I'm definitely
going to need to pick up another job. It's fucked up.

I've got a good job, but if that goes I'm pretty much fucked.
Well, its this place where nobody works, and the pigs don\'t give you any shit. Everyone smokes weed and gets drunk all day. Its a place where
cunts like me and you can truly take it easy and relax. Know what I mean?

thats how I am too. The only reason I have any cushion is because of what my job pays.

moron, we were the same way.
we've been check to check most of our adult lives. when both my wife and i were working, we lived it up. we first started putting aside when we
decided to have a kid. eventually, that led to a house fund. of course, a month after moving in, my biggest client at the time closed up shop. we
spent 18 months drawing from what was left in our house fund every month to make ends meet.
this year has been the breakout year. i had a lot of contract offers, so i went out on my own full time. we've paid ourselves back what we borrowed
from savings and will have doubled that amount by the end of the year. we'll also pay off our long term credit card this year. and that's what makes
these hospital bills sting - it's like the minute i truly get ahead, i'm slapped back down!
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

I threw that in cause I figure ya never know.
Congrats, whoever you are.
Hopefully, you live life with fewer knots in your stomach than I!
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

I took over my family business. I continue to run everything solo. If I were to sell today I would make enough money to live comfortably for 20+
years.
That being said, I'm far from rich. I just look great on paper. I work hard to keep everything running smooth and will contine to do so till it's time
to pass it on to a younger generation.

Duane, for the 5 years Mrs. Moron and I lived in NYC we had lots of fun. I never really made that much money, but the Mrs. did fine once she started
working as a nurse. When we moved back to CT and did our income taxes in April we saw how much money she was making and we couldn't fucking figure
out where it all went. We literally had NOTHING to show for our time in NYC... monetarily speaking... but lots fun times and good stories. Hell, I
hadn't even given a thought to saving for retirement until this past January. We finally did our first official budget this past spring! We never
had any idea how much money was coming in and where it was going.

I think I'll be working 2 jobs soon, and Mrs Moral will be employed too hopefully. I'm really hurting right now... and the economy hasn't even
collasped. I mean, shit, couldn't the hard times wait until I have to go all Tom Joad?
