How much free space do you have on your computer?

I only have about 20% space that's still free. I guess it's from all the music I have on the computer, which is about 9200 songs. Is that normal or do I have a small hard drive?

Music takes up lots of space. I bought a external hard drive to store all of my music.

Are those expensive? Can you just transfer the music from one to the other, or do you have to load it all on again?

You should be able to just transfer music.

I think I have ~1.1TB left out of 2.6TB, getting a 3rd 1TB drive this week to do complete backups, right now I only have operating system & our home videos backed up properly.

A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

had my first computer (mac) since february, 21000+ songs and no problems yet. Most of my songs are rips from my cds, not sure if that makes a difference.Fuckin takes forever though!

I have a 500 gig external HD and it cost about $150. It was well worth the money because my laptop only have 100gigs and I can store all the stuff on my other comps on the external and bring it with me wherever I go.

Anyone that has a lot of music on their pc and doesn;t have it backed up to an external HD must not value their time very much. Even if you own all the music on hard CD, think of the time it took you to rip it all. Now think of the time you'd save if your machine goes down but just having to transfer it back over from an external.

PowerBook - using 60 out of 80GB
MacBook Pro - using 73 out of 186GB

External 40GB - full
External 250GB - 80/170 partition to back up PB and MBP, so 60/80 and 73/170
NAS drive - not sure... got a couple TB total, probably using less than 1TB.

2x500 gig externals, one is completely full of movies, the other is about half full of random back-up stuff.

2x320 gig internals, probably about 80% full on each. i'm on my laptop right now so i can't check for sure the numbers

200 gig in my laptop, which has 10.6 gigs free.
