Las Vegas

Any of you been to Vegas? What are some nice hotels to stay at for a cheap/good price? I am thinking HOOTERS or LUXOR. They seem to have the best deals. What did you think of the place?

Also, have any of you used PRICELINE or TRAVELOCITY for getting good deals?

my bachelor party was a five day vegas extravaganza with 20 of my homies.
we had rooms at the ny, ny, but there wasn't much in the way of sleeping.
drank, gamble, hang with friends.

I've been to Vegas twice. The first time was just for a day, I was visiting Colorado for a couple of weeks and me and a buddy took a road trip out there since it was a place I always really really wanted to go. He slept in the van that night while I took on the city solo. I had a fucking blast, and came back to the van $1,300 richer from hitting at the Mirage on a slot, so I definetly recommed visiting there.

The second time I went was for Viva Las Vegas, Rockabilly Weekender (no, I'm not rockabilly). We stayed at The Treasure Island, which was awesome. The pirate show was rad!

As far as Priceline goes, I used them for a different trip and they sucked. The room was horrible and the entire place was a dump, we got what we paid for I guess.

Been to Vegas 5 times, use travelocity or expedia for flight and hotel each time.

I would prefer to stay downtown versus on the strip, its more condensed than the strip, easier to get a round and WAY cheaper in general. Golden Nugget is the high end downtown and Four Queens is the best deal for a clean room for a fair price. Most of the others down there besides main st station are dumps. Downtown is a 2 block area packed with like 10 hotel/casinos where the street is covered with a giant canopy they flash light shows on every hour at night and the street is packed with vendors selling trinkets, caricatures cigars etc etc. The buffets outside of golden nuggtet are kinda of shakeys/shoney-ish but theres a killer brewery restaurant at main-st station and a smaller one in four queens that claims to serve chicago pizza.

As far as the strip I've stayed at Luxor which is nice and Frontier which is gone. The strip is big, glitzy, packed with people and hard to get around. Giant hotels, giant casinos, giant streets and tons of pedestrian traffic with about 2 blocks of walking between each hotel. Downtown however is the food destination...the buffets are without peer. Theres plenty of high end stuff, Wynn, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay...but the Rio is the Age of Quarrel of buffets. just rediculous...you need a golf cart to get around.

I think hooters and hard rock are the beautiful people casinos, all the young and hip go there to be seen at the pool, Luxor is a solid deal, nice rooms, clean place, mixed crowd and its connected via tunnel to Mandalay Bay which is one of the better eating destinations on the strip...plus the bridge/tunnel has this burger bar with $25 Kobe burgers. hammers. The only place strip I'd say to steer clear of is Circus Circus...its dirty as hell and filled with kids.

Both have their merits...but in a nutshell downtown is like a street fair with gambling and the strip is like disneyworld with gambling.

This is a really good site describing the places by locals and regulars.

I don't allow myself to go to Vegas or Atlantic City. I enjoy gambling waaaaaaay too much.

I have been to Vegas many times and stayed at many of the hotels. Do not stay at the Luxor it is really not that great of a place and is too far away from the main strip where all the action is.

Caesars is my favorite place to stay down there, but if you are looking for a place that is a little cheaper try the Flamingo. Nice place in the middle of the action.

Two things you should do while you are there. Go to the shooting range that is located just off the strip. This place is amazing and you can shoot any gun that you can possibly imagine. Also if you want to go out for a nice dinner hit up Boa Steak House in Caesars palace. Amazing food. Other than that have some fun while you are down there.

I went for my college senior year spring break. My dad and his brother met us there. It was their last night, our first. We stayed at the Rio. It was off of the strip and little out of the way but a great facility.

We used a travel agent. I have used Orbits and Travelocity for the last two vacations I have gone on to Florida. Well worth it.

Used to go there every time I was in Montreal. I also used to go to the casino at Niagra Falls a lot too because it's not a long drive. My problem is I won't walk away when I'm up because for me it's less about the money and more about the gambling itself. I love the atmosphere, testing my luck, etc. One time I was at Casino Niagra and I was up $2500 and my friends were telling me to quit while I was ahead but I wouldn't because it was too much fun. By the time I left I was almost $1000 in the hole. I didn't like losing the money, but I had a shitload of fun doing it. It's why I try to stay away from casino's these days.

Hooters is definitely NOT a "hip" place to stay. Hard Rock gets a lot of LA/"industry" people, but I'm pretty sure Hooters is exactly what you'd expect.

Saying Vegas is "the most fake place on earth" is like saying you went to Disney and you were pissed the 6 foot mouse wasn't real.

I like staying downtown, as well.
