The Brass Knuckles Challenge
While 2004 was a strong warm-up, 2005 looks to be shaping up as "The Year of the Brass Knuckles Graphic". (Kinda reminds me of all the dotcoms using
swooshes back in the late 90s.) Be it in logos, shirt designs or CD layouts, the brass knuckles really seem to be the tough icon du jour. Obviously,
there's nothing wrong with it's popularity, but as a designer, I find these kind of trends interesting.
Let's see just how many we can come up with! I'll even start things off with an obvious one...
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

actually, knucks are on the wain, before that it was zombies and before that still...blood splatter.
I think theres an in crowd as far as design goes that kind of creates and recycles style elements in hardcore and then theres a fringe group of older
guy bands who really dont pay attention (sadly for a musical aspect, not design) to alot of the newer bands so things get used that really may seem
like theyre following along with the trend but in actuality they don't even have a clue it was a trend.
Early 90's skinhead graffiti artwork needs to come back ala gut instinct, just cause...etc etc.

haha i hear that ^ so true
heres a long quick message of not alot...
and while my style is the grungy dirty feel which is really the only way to go with rock-related design work, i can be stickin in abstract modern or
really 3d industrial art on a hardcore bands cd album haha that stuff is for electronic music like rave shit. so im really into seein the eaten away
terror logo style shiz all the time, im not complaining though.
i loved the spiked bats, the thornz record - cartel records thugcore illustrations, nyhc, tatoo art, the chains the spraypaint the graffitti and I
still do and I still try to impletment whereever I can.
brass knuckles are ridiculously popular and frankly is fuckin lame. stupid atrocity designs i think it is use them for their small logo just to be
trendy and cool, dont they design emo shit for emo bands or something? hello what the fuck! and theres the big clothing line i forget the name but i
think by that dude in good charlotte that listens to hardcore and hes got a shirt with brass knucks on it, the dude is in the Fat Albert movie, im
sorry but eye makeup, fashion hair just dont mix with brass knuckles... another thing most of the kids reppin the knucks dont have knucks themselves,
i understand bands have it on their merch sometimes and thats fine though. and of course the all appropriate toughguy bands can duely sport the weapon
of choice.
in canada knuckles are illegal, so is so much more fun to have them. peronsally, noting that no local cops browse the thorp board, I deal them up
here.
we should start seein hammers and pick axe's or something on more art haha.

hahaha im just getting on it.

I actually tried to stay away from BKs in all the work i do.
I find it annoying how pwoplw who dont own a pair, have never held a pair, and are just plain wuss, have that kind of shit on their bands art.
I have a sweet pair of plastic ones that are legal pretty much anywhere...

Ive been trying to stay wayfrom th blood splatter too. as long as its grungey but not red, im cool with that.

you can buy plastic and glass ones on ebay,
for real ones you could try a company called budk, but look for brass paper weights.
