excel help

You guys helped me before when I needed to convert seconds into minutes (123 seconds to 2:03). Now I need to do the opposite. Can anyone help me out?

The previous formula looked like this:

=TEXT(E8/(24*60*60), "mm:ss")

assuming you're only dealing with minutes and seconds (as opposed to hours, minutes and seconds), try this:

- Assume your minutes:seconds value is located in A1
- Format A1 as TEXT
- Format B1 as NUMBER
- In B1 enter the formula: =A1*1440
- The conversion result will appear in B1

If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

Google!

Honestly, I'm not 100% sure what that formula is doing. Excel tracks time as a fraction of the day, and there are 1440 minutes in a day, but I don't quite get how having the first column as text and the second as a number is affecting the result.
