wii owners...talk to me
thinking about trying to pick this up for the family.
what are the pros and cons of the system?
what is the game selection like?
do i have to buy 50 different controllers?
is there an online marketplace for games, movies, etc like PS3 and xbox?
if so, does the wii some with internal disk space?
component video, not hdmi, right?
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

I played Wii once.
It was fun playing the sports games.
I want one.
No moolah though
I never even see them in the stores either.

Wii is good for younger kids. But it has a very small selection of quality games when compared to Xbox360 and PS3. The graphics are nowhere near as
good as the other two systems either. If your kids won't be turning 12-14 anytime soon, then the Wii is the way to go.
Also, a lot of people bought Wii because it was much cheaper than its competition, right now the Xbox 360 is $199.
If I had to choice between all three, and as much as I love PS, I'd go with the Xbox 360 because the PS3 is still too expensive.

thats a good point. It does depend on the kids age a lot.

I like it, but you're looking at about another 100$ on top of the base system to be able to play 2 players.
Well, its this place where nobody works, and the pigs don\'t give you any shit. Everyone smokes weed and gets drunk all day. Its a place where
cunts like me and you can truly take it easy and relax. Know what I mean?

I agree with ALL of that. As for online stuff of ANY kind... The Wii is shit when it comes to that. They just started to sell original games for
download thru their system very recently. No movies, tv shows, etc.
Xbox 360 is getting a full dashboard update on 11/19/08 that will allow you to stream Netflix movies thru the console... The same Netflicks movies
you can stream now on your computer. I have heard GREAT things as far as feedback goes with the Netfix streaming so if that is somthing that
interests you, Xbox is the way to go.
Wii is fun, it's a toy, I enjoy some of the games on it but not many... Xbox 360 is a gaming console, but also has kids games.
If you do want it and have a Sam's Club in the area, they are having an INSANE black friday sale on a Wii bundle... Wii system, 3 extra Wiimotes, 3
extra Nunchuks, and 3 games for $224.99
Also, If any of you have iTunes, and I KNOW some of you do, PLEASE take 2 seconds out of your day and help a fellow Thorpster out by giving my
podcast a 5 star iTunes review. It takes a second to do and helps us out ALOT! I even made a direct link to our iTunes page... http://itunes.gamemechanix.net

i quit playing video games probably a decade ago. no more interest. i gotta say, i found the wii addictive as fuck. all of the sports games it
comes with are much more interactive given the nature of the controller, so you get really into it. and the system i was on had the old school
original double dragon (wii controller can be held just like the old NES controller) and i was dedicated to beating it!
anyway, i think it really depends on what you're looking for. the stuff i've seen on it - though very limited - appeals to everyone EXCEPT serious
gamers. Siczine.com is probably right about xbox vs playstation. but BD, you've got really young kids... so if this is for you, them, and the wife,
the wii might be a great family purchase. especially since the wii is the most physically interactive/intense video game system there is (even if it
might be better to go out to a ballpark and knock out some home runs, but the wii is a nice (and safe) alternative at 11pm after a few beers).

i have a ps2, but haven't played it in years.
i like the tony hawk and hitman series.
my wife never really used it.
she's the one that brought up the wii, though.
i played it once - bowling, golf, tennis, etc.
it was simple, but fun.
no having to read online about how to complete levels, no secret codes.
and i think that's the attraction.
something we can play together, even w/ our 4y/o.
i love the idea of having a builtin blueray or streaming netflix, but no one else would use it.
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

and while we're on the topic...
can ps3 play old ps1 and ps2 games?

BD, the Wii would be awesome for your little girl and not to mention how great it will be for the whole family.
I'm not a gamer at all and I love this thing. The Wii fit is not what I thought it was going to be but seriously, it is a great thing for the family.
Gets you up and moving as a family. Good times.

I have the wii, and because I am not a gamer, it is the most fun to me because of the interactivity. The graphics could use some help, but I have a
blast whenever I pull it out to play with. (insert comments here).

I am the exact same. I also bought (for $5) Super Mario Bros and Punch Out! I love those games still.

so what's up with getting the oldschool games?
is there one disk with a bunch of games, or do you buy them online via the console?
how much are they?
