My Cat.

My cat "Mr. Kitty" has a history of crystals forming in his bladder blocking his pee hole. It's happened twice before and usually happens in the middle of the night or on a weekend and costs upwards of $1000 to treat each time.

It happened again this morning. He was shreeking, puking, panting and had a look of terror in his eyes. I took him into the emergency clinic and was praying to the cat gods that it was something other than this crystal issue. The vet said he's blocked and the two options are to treat ($1000+) or put him down.

I fucking lost it in front of this complete stranger. In the past when I was playing gigs and working in a bar I made lot's of money but times have been a little tight lately with the new job (read: pay cut), my wife in school full time and winter expenses. Needless to say, I don't have a grand to help my cat so I had to choose the other more grim option. I told the vet I wanted to be with him when he died and she said she would bring him out to me so I could pet him as he died. I'm fucking loosing it in the clinic, balling my eyes out and thinking about how fucked up it is that I can't afford to help my cat.

The knock comes at the door. I brace for my little buddy to come in and I think about just sitting with him while he passes. The vet comes in and she is upset and says "there may be something else I can do but there is a chance that it may not work and that you'll be back here tomorrow with the same issue." She is flushing his bladder out right now, getting rid of the blockage and is going to send him home in an hour.

My wife just called and they said he's doing fabulous so my fingers are crossed that he is going to be OK.

The thing that burns me is our vet has told us that if you feed him this specific type of food (that costs 5 x what normal cat food costs) he'll be fine. Now this other vet in the emergency clinic is telling me that we have to feed him this other kind of food.

Anyhow, it's crazy that i'm so attached to a little fur ball that doesn't do any tricks or anything.

Hoping the little shit pulls through.

$250 later he's home and doped out of his tree. The vet told me today that "Good pet owners deserve a break sometimes" and cut the bill in half and didn't charge me for a few of the shots.

He's like dead weight right now so we'll see how he acts when he comes around.

my old cat had that same problem...it mostly happens to males...it's the dry food...'gotta switch him to a low ash brand,or better yet,canned...there was a brand called TRIUMPH that i fed him after (canned),and it did the trick...he's no longer with us,now, but that's not such a sad thing considering he passed away about 9 years ago at the age of 17...

good luck..

Sometimes I think I'd be better off going to see a good vet than a doctor. I've been in similar circumstances where vets came through and have seen it happen for friends a few times too. On the flip side, it seems like doctors consistently fuck good people over for the almighty dollar.

I hope your cat comes through this great and never has to deal with this problem again.

I wish you didn't have to make this thread my friend. I hope things turn around for the cat. Poor guy.

Johnny, this is tough I know man. Just keep him comfortable and happy. Let him know you love him. Animals are very in tune with things. They tell us when it is time.

Take Care Man and please keep us posted.

He seems to be doing much better. He fucking hates eating the pills we have to feed him and is being a bit of a cunt about it which is probably a good thing. Means he's got a bunch of fight in him.

He's walking around, but not really eating or drinking anything. I think he'll feel much better in the morning.

Thanks for the kind words Thorpsters.

I'm late in the game here, but I hope everything works out for the best. There's really nothing I think I can say... if you're lucky, you're gonna watch him fight harder than he should have to. And if you're not, he'll at least be in less pain. Neither situation is good, but I hope for the sake of you, the family, and him, that everything works out for the best and you all get more good time to spend with each other.

I'm happy to say that it looks like the little shit is out of the woods. He's drinking lot's of water, peeing lot's and this morning ate a little bit of the wretched doctor prescribed cat food mixed with tuna juice.

His tail is wagging and he seems happy. I called the vet yesterday and told them about his comatose state and said that I think he's reacting poorly to the dose of pain killers the emerg vet gave him and they said to stop giving him the pain meds immediately. That's when he turned the corner.

Thanks for the kind words Thorpsters. Mr. Kitty has your back.
