Some photos I took
At Fun Fun Fun Fest this year....
Excuse the quality of some of 'em, my camera's not the greatest with zoom.

And I really hope I don't need to tell you guys who any of those folks are...

HR was wearing that thing over his head when he first came out and he kept taking it off and putting it back on, half the time he had it wrapped
around so much of his head that you could only see part of one of the lenses of his sunglasses. That man has completely lost his fucking mind. Aside
from the head scarf, he had on a suit jacket and some kind of long, flowing robe like he's a wizard or some shit. Musically, Bad Brains were perfect.
It sounded as tight as the early records (which is where 98% of their set was taken from), but HR was singing as if the songs were some weird
combination of bible hymns and lullabies. He was singing and talking in this fruity sounding sing-song voice and kept pretending to be a teacher in
front of a class. He also refused to acknowledge the name Bad Brains and kept referring to them as HR/Good Brains. The best thing he did was when he
introduced Pay To Cum by saying "here's a very special, very old song, but I'm afraid I won't be able to do the back flip for you tonight".
I wasn't sure what to expect from JJ's version of The Cro-Mags, but they were fucking amazing. As I've heard from people who saw some of the other
shows they've played recently, they did a great cover of about half of Baba O'Riley. I couldn't believe JJ could pull that off but it sounded
fantastic, as did all of the Cro-Mags songs they played. I saw the version Harley and Parris put together several years back and I gotta say, JJ's
version blew that away.
Aside from those two, the bands that were really good at this year's fest (in my humble opinion anyway), were DOA, Swingin' Utters (best set I've ever
seen them play, mostly old stuff too), Adolescents, and Municipal Waste. Municipal Waste were a ton of fun live, I don't think I could handle playing
the albums at home, way too metal for my taste, but those guys know how to put on a show.
Somewhere lower on the scale were performances from Dead Milkmen, ALL (I used to love this band and saw them several times, but they were shaky as
fuck), Killdozer was actually pretty fuckin' good, but I never really listened to 'em before so I wasn't as stoked on seeing them. I really really
wanted to see Born To Lose, but they played first on the second day and I just couldn't make it there by 12:30 in the afternoon.
On the terrible end of the spectrum, The Bouncing Souls have completed their transformation into drivel. They used to be really fun to see and have
always been super nice guys, but what the fuck is up with adding super long acoustic intros with whiny assed emo singing to half of the songs? Next on
the shitlist is Integrity. While this may be hard to believe out of the mouth of the board's most rabid metal hater, I used to fucking LOVE Integrity.
I still have almost everything they released and once travelled from Austin to Madison, Wisconsin for a festival mainly because they were playing.
Back then, they were amazing. Now, with this line up of who knows and who cares members, they sucked shit through a fucking straw. Even Dwid's voice
was horrible, he sounded blown out and cupped the mic so much that everything sounded like a pervert's heavy breathing on a bad crank call.
There were lots and lots of other bands, but those are the ones at the stage I was at the whole time. I know at one stage they had a bunch of scene
guys doing their solo projects, Tim from Avail, Kevin Seconds, and Walter from GB/Quicksand/YOT were all on that stage, but I didn't venture over for
any of that.

Oh yeah, meant to add that in that last photo of Joey Shithead, he was right in the middle of doing his patented Muppet-head move.

I saw DOA in 1990 but I thought they sucked.
That being said I am surprised DEAD MILKMEN played that show. I love that band and hope they do something with it. I know the old bass player is dead,
but that band was too good to end. The INTEGRITY issue. I agree 110%. Dwid has been doing this new bullshit off and on for over 10 years now. Even the
first "reunion" show 8 years ago wasn't a reunion. No one was original except him.

DOA have been great every time I've seen them, Joey is still going just as strong as ever.
The Dead Milkmen thing was supposed to be a one time reunion, but who knows. Honestly, I took off about halfway through their set because I was kinda
burnt out that day and most of what I really wanted to see was the next day.
I know that even before they broke up originally, Integrity had gone through a few line up changes, but to keep doing reunions with only one member is
pretty stupid in my book. Especially if you can't even get people who can pull off what the band was always about. If you really feel the need to
recreate a band for anything more than a paycheck, you really ought to get competent people involved.

i remember some reviewer said their album 12 Point Buck was the perfect soundtrack to start a cult to.

Ya last time I saw INTEGRITY the songs didn't even sound like they normally should. It was like a INTEGRITY cover band with a singer who sounded like
the original.

^^^^^^^^^^ Wasn't the singer from BABES IN TOYLAND married to a guy form that band?

don't think they're really "still around" so much as playing a few reunion type shows from time to time. Now that I've seen 'em, I wanna go back and
pick up a few of their albums, 12 Point Buck being one I want, but that CD is going for about 40 bucks used on Amazon right now.

Might have been an off night. I've seen DOA at least ten times over the years and they've always been fucking amazing.

Very cool! I own Uncompromising War on Art Under the Dictatorship of the Proletariot, and I always wanted more. This already sounds waaay better.
