Hard Skin will probably sell out
Right before I get there in 45 minutes. Let's see if my shitty luck continues.

Openers were not so good. Hard Skin was great and absolutely hilarious. Imagine NRSV without the chicken/beer costume but more between-song banter.
"There's only one thing worse than a north Londoner... a crusty."
Three songs later.
"There's only one thing worse than the BNP [British National Party, a racist political party]... a crusty."
In light of the "best shows" thread, they certainly don't disappoint.

i find absolutely nothing appealing about that band whatsoever. and yes i get that it's a joke.

Really? I can't see how anyone could like Oi or Punk and NOT like them. Well, aside from the "too tough for a sense of humor" type skins who are
offended that there's somehow a joke involved, but I don't see that being you at all, Brian.

hahaha, no. hardly the reactionary "they're making fun of oi, they should be stomped" scenario. i just never found them funny in the least, and the
music really isn't that good. MUCH better (albeit less in the oi side of things) were the Diesel Queens. i LOVE that band, they were straight up
fucking awesome and hilarious at the same time. i'm honestly surprised that sometime with discerning tastes such as yourself likes that garbage.

I like the Diesel Queens too, but never really put them in the full on "joke band" category. Anyway, guess it's just one of those things...

i suppose, but songs like "man boy love", "pantysniffer", and "i like cheese" sound like a joke to me. i highly doubt they're meant as anything else.
i'm sure you get what i mean, and they're definitely funnier than anything by hardskin. i still consider that a slip in otherwise good taste on your
part

I heard on a recent radio show that Hard Skin was made up of some ex-british boy band members during the late 90's street punk craze. They ended up
getting signed to some big Oi label and then dropped because they let the cat out of the bag.
It might have been a different Oi band but I'm pretty sure it is them.

No, they're from other Punk bands, but the first release they did was a double seven inch where they switched instruments and called themselves lots
of different names making fun of british pop music and Oi all at once. I'm not at home right now and don't remember all the band names, but aside from
Hard Skin (doing a Spice Girls song, no less) there was one on there called Oiasis which I always thought was pretty funny. The dig on Oi was in
reference to how many of the bands on the original Oi compilations were just the few bands that were around in that scene at the time swapping
instruments and claiming to be another band to both fill space on the albums and to make it seem like a bigger scene than it was.

part | Well, yeah, I didn't mean to
imply that the songs aren't funny and/or jokes, I just think there's something else implied when a band is a "joke band". Fer instance, the vast
majority of Darkbuster's songs are funny, but I would never consider them a joke band. On the other hand, the vast majority of Hard Skin's songs
aren't funny in and of themselves, it's the fact that they are putting on an act of being semi stereotypical English Skinheads when they really don't
come from that angle at all that makes the band a joke band to me.
As far as musical taste goes, I would honestly say that if you put aside the whole joke band aspect of them, Hard Skin would have to be one of the top
ten Oi bands to have released anything in the past five years. Maybe that partly has to do with that whole 90's Oi resurgence dying out, as well as
the fact that most current Oi bands sound like that Ten Hole Bootboys thing, but it also has to do with Hard Skin nailing the sound perfectly.

I saw them once, they were clowning a crusty chick that was handing out veggie zines or something. They were like "check out our zine, Soy not Oi!"

yeah i have no doubt there's worse out there. i'm pretty out of touch with whats going on in the oi scene these days, but if ten holes are
representative of the current state of things i don't think i'm missing much really. i'm sure neither of us is gonna change the others mind on this
one, so we'll have to agree to disagree.

what I meant earlier when I said it was just one of those things. Anyway, I'm sure there's a hell of a lot of bands we could both agree on even if
you've obviously slipped a bit by not catching on to a band like Hard Skin.
