youz with depression

how did/do you deal with it?

i know the topic has come up before, and quite a few of you are on meds... or opted for weed instead or in addition to meds. :) so what's helped? therapy/counselor? meds? combination? neither? something else?

doctor prescribed prozac about two weeks ago, and it ain't doing much for me. counselor flat out said i had no problems, so that was an exercise in futility. should have another appointment with the doctor in about a week or two.

feel free to send a pm if you don't want to post here. just looking for some new avenues to pursue.

Please read and, if you can, help out a friend: http://www.gofundme.com/jacobmedical.

What Franklo said. I tried meds and found that the side effects outweighed the benefits for me. I know that they work for some folks and I won't downplay that at all, but any honest doctor will tell you that the best thing you can do for depression is become more active, whether that means the gym, running, biking, or whatever the fuck you can enjoy that will get your body working hard. The other thing I did was to remove myself from the source of the logical side of my depression. I'm well aware that a lot of people have depression with no external cause, just brain chemicals but I find that my worst depression is almost always triggered by situations I'm in. My worst experience was in my marriage and once I got away from her things were 1000 times better.

direct sunlight, stretching, cardiovascular activity and comedy help me a lot.

i talked to a guy a while back. the first things he asked me were,

"do you hear voices?"

"no."

"do you feel suicidal?"

"no."

"well, that's boring."

we both laughed hard.

it was the perfect ice breaker.

he used to work at a place that dealt only with EXTREME cases.

he was big on intense cardio for 30 minutes a day and relaxation techniques.

he would ask me what pissed me off, then i would repeat a phrase saying that it wouldn't bother me while following his finger moving from far right to far left.

very bizarre, but it worked to a certain extent.

working out. Seriously, it works. May not be the answer for you, but I am sure it will help in many ways.

I have been suicidal. The day that I was mentally writing my note to my husband was the day I decided to get some help. I have clinical depression that comes in cycles. I can't take medication, the side effects are much worse than feeling tired and sad. I usually just try to exercise more and I go to the tanning bed during the winter if I start feeling sad. It helps a lot.

I went to a psychologist and actually made an effort to follow her advice.....oh, and weed. But I've almost got that cut out.
I need to know I can cope on my own. I still drink beer, but rarely more than 3 or 4. You have to force your self to do something when you feel yourself sliding.

Well, its this place where nobody works, and the pigs don\'t give you any shit. Everyone smokes weed and gets drunk all day. Its a place where cunts like me and you can truly take it easy and relax. Know what I mean?
