Dear Diary, LiveJournal, and other sh*t.

Sometimes people put shit on the internet better left unsaid to others. You also get the people who put shit out there no matter how ridiculous it makes them look. I'm that guy.

Now... For the past couple months I have been considering having Awake/Strong release music other than Hardcore. I grew up in Hardcore and my heart is with it. But I also enjoy all kinds of music. I'm opening the discussion of... Does releasing music outside of Hardcore compromise the integrity of that label, or does it really not matter?

I know the decision is ultimately mine. But I'm curious what you guys/ladies think.

I think it's likely to create problems for you just in that people who come to your label looking for HC might get something else by mistake and that in turn could lead to you getting a bad name. We all know how rumors and drama fly around at the drop of a hat, save yourself the headache. If anything, I would suggest creating a kind of sublabel for other genres.

The sublabel/imprint type thing always works. But, hey, plenty of well known hardcore labels have expanded outside of hardcore. If someone comes to your site assuming everything is hardcore and buys a record with the description "for fans of Sensefield and Jimmy Eat World" and gets pissed, then that's really their problem.

I think the sub label would be a good idea. What kind of music are you looking to put out?

Sub label is perfect. Worked for Andy King when he started Sailors Grave. The heavy hardcore stuff gets released on Thorp, the oi!, streetpunk, psychobilly, etc. gets released on Sailors Grave. Works quite well, and you can have two sites that link directly to each other, and have your releases all available in the same spot.

The answers have all been fairly consistent. Thank you for the feedback.
