Do you care about categorizing music?

Most people I know think I'm anal because all my cd's are in alphabetical order, with each band's albums being in chronological order. I just think it's easier to find things.

My sister was over tonight and was looking through my itunes library and told me I've gone from anal to insane because I'm very meticulous about labeling albums. Some bands start out in one genre, but later move onto another. For example, Life of Agony started out as a hardcore band, but their later stuff was more rock/metal, and the albums are labeled as such. Corrosion of Conformity did the same thing, started as a hardcore band that became a metal band. In these kinds of situations, I label the albums as I see them, as opposed to lumping the band's entire catelogue in one genre.

Is this weird?

My cd's are alphebetical and usually from most recent to oldest release. I have always been anal about that. As for itunes I let it sort out the details of that.

my iTunes is kind of a mess because I'm lazy.

my CDs used to be in perfect alpha/crono order but I ran out of space and now they are a mess. I SHOULD sell a bunch of the CDs but I'm anal about not getting rid of music even though I have multiple copies of some stuff.... and its not even really good stuff!

I'm pretty meticulous about catagorizing my music. I even have groupings for covers and instrumentals.Sometimes I'll add new music and its like a drop in the ocean, never to be seen again. Because once you get locked into a serious music collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

I really want to add the album art, but I did the auto search and it found very little and adding it is a pain!

I am pretty lazy and let iTunes sort it out. I do get a surprise form time to time and find shit in my library I have over looked but I never set up the genre. I really should

I keep my cds in alphabetical order by band, then chronological by release, only because I'm anal about it. As far as Itunes goes, unless I think the genre they put it in is way the hell off I usually leave it alone.

My cd's are alphabetical.

My mp3's are done with Artist, Title, Composer (i put record label here so i can listen to 1 label at any time), year & Genre (I only use Rock, Hardcore, Punk & Metal, no subgenres).

Most anal with my folder structure though.

D:\C\Cannibal Corpse (USA)\1996 - Vile (128)

Every letter has a folder, every band its own folder and 3 letter country code, every album is eventually going to be YEAR - title (bitrate) as well.

:)

A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

I tried moving around my itunes at one point, but I have the attention span of a goldfish.
I have stacks of CDs in my living room, bedroom, and computer room. I do have a bunch in order in my old CD racks, but after I put them on Itunes I rarly touch them anymore. When I do they usually wind up in one of the stacks.
My records were once alphabeticaly in order, but when I listen to them I hardly ever put them back in their right spots, or when I buy them I first put them next to the record player to hear them before putting them on one of the shelves in a random spot. I'm lazy, but I do go on crazy streaks in the middle of the night when I can't sleep, maybe I'll reorganize soon.

My cd's are in 3 ring binder notebooks. I have seven 3" binder full . They are in alphabetical order a-z, but each letter is not organized.
My itunes has to be organized. It has artist, album, song, time, track number, year, and art.

I just find that many of the itunes listings in regards to genre to be wrong.
