It wasn't bad at all. I am lucky genetically, my pain tolerance is high and my endorphins work very efficiently. The only tattoo that was really uncomfortable was the ribs, and it hurt worse in a nerve on my right elbow then on my rib cage. The right side is completely shaded, unfortunately I had to cover the guns with roses to get into the military due to gang related issues. I was so bummed that it was get it covered or be denied entry, my tattoo guy did it for free on what would have been an easy $140 for him. Its all good though, once my chest and stomach are filled out no one will notice the difference.

stupid question... it says "Mama Tried" right?

I cant beleive that the military cares what tattoos anyone has. If someone wants to join they should be happy to take them.

Yeah its Mama Tried. The military thing mostly had to due with where I was joining out of. The Los Angeles entry station is pretty strict just because of the area and the percentage of gangs in the area. The military as a whole is definitely shifting away from tattoos being as acceptable, at least from what I have seen and read. Voodoo what are your experiences on the way the tattoo policies has been going?

Yup, it is definitely shifting into a tattoo unfriendly enviroment. Unless your in the Army, they will take just about anyone with two war fronts right now. I actually had to sign a pg 13 (a permanent document submitted into your record) that states what I already have and that I will not add to it in any visible spots while in uniform. That's perfectly alright with me since tattoos are trendy these days anyway. I actually have plans to finish some things and add a couple of simple pieces and then call it done. The militarys policy on tattoos is pretty fair if you ask me. I mean, it would be pretty detrimental to an equal force if we let in dudes with swastikas tattooed on them and white power shit, on the other hand it is just as damaging to let thugs in sporting their gang colors and what not. Also, nothing sexist or subversive to the treatment of women. I personally don't think it's too much to ask and it makes sense to me. I think a big part of the reason for the general shift of tattoo policy in the Department of the Navy is due to the last few CNO's (Commander of Naval Operations) we have had. They have all been guys with big time degrees in business administration and such and have brought a business mentality to the force. This has eventually taken shape in stricter policies shifting away from what most think of in terms of traditional Navy. I am a fiercely loyal person and when I make a promise, it sticks. I am also expected to be a leader now so whether I agree with policy or not, it's my job to enforce it. You know the drill barcode. By the by, if the gov does turn on it's people I will happily strap on my jack boots and begin kicking "subversive" citizens doors in and stealing them away into the night:smilegrin:

I definitly ment no disrespect by saying the army should accept anyone willing to join and now that I read it I do understand what Barcode & Voodoo are saying. I do still think its kind of silly that they felt like adding roses to the guns on Barcodes ribs made it okay when its all completly covered in uniform anyway.

As long as both of you are safe thats all that matters!

No disrespect taken bro, we all have opinions here no sweat. I can break it down like this. Gangs are actually sending members into the military to learn various combat skills and then when their term is up, they get out and go back to said gang to teach others bringing this skill set to the streets to conduct said combat with other gangs. This is unacceptable. I have a friend who is a captain in the Army. He has to deal with the insubordination of punk fuckers who just don't care at all and are a complete discredit and disgrace to the uniform on a daily basis. the whole tattoo thing is one small way they "try" to control the types of people being recruited. It obviously does not work because instead of being turned away for gang related tattoos, you are simply instructed to have them covered or removed. The Navy has been through a long process of thinning it's ranks and establishing much higher standards for those being recruited, this is why the tattoo policy is so strict right now. It all goes in cycles, when they realize the numbers are too thin they will begin a large recruiting campaign and things like that will be relaxed. It's the cycle of things in the military. Once you sing those papers and swear in you ARE government property and can actually be charged for defacing said property. It takes some getting used to for sure. Not a real big deal though and just part of the reason everyone talks about sacrifice with military members, we definitely don't have the same rights and freedoms that a regular citizen of the US has. We even have a whole different set of laws we have to follow and could be tried under. The UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) I can actually be tried by both civilian and military courts for the same crime. No such thing as double jeopardy for us.

Unit tattos are always a bad idea, if you get captured they know exactly who you are.

Well, its this place where nobody works, and the pigs don\'t give you any shit. Everyone smokes weed and gets drunk all day. Its a place where cunts like me and you can truly take it easy and relax. Know what I mean?
