aside from that, yeah there is freedom of expression and all, but that is just in bad taste. if that was a picture of my dad or someone who was
killed, and some weasel punk band were making a mockery of it, I'd ne pretty pissed.

did anyone see the record cover? I cant find anything about the band except articles about the lawsuit.
Even if its in bad taste and disrespectful I wonder if its protected under some public domain law.

not if the paper owns the rights to the photo. and that is determined by the contract the paper has with the original photographer. see recent
drama between fairey & AP for similar example.
photos taken at the scene by the PD might be available under freedom of information act, but i don't think even that would make them public
domain.
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

Youre probably right, I was kind of playing devils advocate.

Yeah, they're claiming the photo was shot FOR the paper, thus not public domain.
I saw the cover. Their myspace was deleted right when this story initially hit, but they had one for their "label" that myspace hadn't yanked.
One of these dudes was posting on punknews in the story (he actually submitted it). Sounded like a complete fuck bag. I'm obviously against police
brutality and all that jazz, but I really hope these dudes get dealt with, hard.
