Watchmen this Friday

Anybody else excited for this?

I have to say the graphic novel is one of the best comics I have ever read, along with Batman: The Killing Joke.

Looks great. Newsweek reviewer suggests it might be too slavishly true to the source material though. Which, I can sort of see how it might be a hinderance.

Alan Moore is not behind it, if that means anything to anyone.

Alan Moore wants nothing to do with Hollywood.

I've never read the graphic novel but it looks amazing and I can't wait to see it.

+1

I am curious though as to what all is gonna have to be cut out or changed for the sake of time. Its not exactly a quick and shallow read.

true, but...

According to Moore, David Hayter's script "was as close as [he] could imagine anyone getting to Watchmen."

me too, but this gives me hope:

Quote:
Snyder's first cut of the film was three hours long. In keeping the film tight, Snyder dubbed himself "the gatekeeper" of the comic's easter eggs, "while [the studio] conspire to say, 'No. Length, length, length. Playability.' [...]

I've lost perspective on that now, because to me, the honest truth is I geek out on little stuff now as much as anybody. Like, people will go, 'We've got to cut. You don't need that shot of Hollis Mason's garage sign.' And I'm like, 'What are you talking about? Of course you do. Are you crazy? How will people enjoy the movie without shit like that in it?'

So it's hard for me."[90] Warner Bros. president of production Jeff Robinov indicated a 145-minute theatrical running time was more likely.[10] Snyder cut the film down to 165 minutes, then 157 when he realized there was a way to further trim the film

i'm gonna see it Friday and then re-read the graphic novel.

I have heard a lot of it is through Rorschach's perspective, which makes sense as a lot of the graphic novel is focused on him. Plus all the Tales From the Black Freighter are going to be its own straight to video film.

Yeah, Tales from the Black Freighter is an animated film.

I honestly don't think they cut alot out. I mean, there will be stuff, but it's not going to be as much as we might think. Hard to imagine a 12 issue run being in a single movie.

Apparently the ending was changed though for the sake of keeping things simple and being able to skip over some of the backstory. Don't really like that it was changed but I think it will still fit the tone of the source material.

definitly excited.

Is Alan Moore not behind it because he thinks the movie will suck or just because he wants nothing to do with films in general?

I didn't do any research but I'm willing to venture that he got a royalty check, some piece of the residual possibly and then wandered off.

Moore has forwarded all money from the movie to Dave Gibbons the artist on Watchmen. Moore would never need to worry about money anyway. AND hes batshit crazy (smart)

Considering he gave his V for Vendetta money to the artist on that, I'd assume he did the same with this one.
