current old timey bands
I'm a fan of old timey music. Roots, blues, pre-war, whatever.
But for the most part, I haven't been that into the people that are making that kind of music today. I dunno why. Maybe because many seem to come
from the country music scene and generally, I don't care for current country. It's too safe or it's too current or there's no edge to to what they're
doing.
Toolin' around on myspace last night I found a bunch of bands that seemed to more from 'our' scene - people that were heavily tattooed, previously in
punk or 'alternative' bands, whatever. And i'm kida feelin a lot of it. Obviously, there's no shortage of us oddballs involved w/ rockabilly and
burlesque and what not, but going all the way back to this stuff was a pleasant surprise.
Lemme know what you think.
And pass along other suggestions if you know of any.

If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

I've been LOVING this kinda stuff lately. I'm feeling a bit too lazy to get all the links gathered up, but a few I've been digging are:
Possessed By Paul James
Scott H. Biram
White Ghost Shivers
and you can't really go wrong with anything associated with Hillgrass Bluebilly Entertainment. They're getting ready to release a double CD tribute to
Hank Sr. and Leadbelly called Hiram And Huddie that I cannot wait for. You can actually get it as a digital download already, but I'm one of those
stubborn CD and/or vinyl buyers.

Might be a bit more modern than you're looking for, but are you familiar with Dax Riggs?

True story I almost killed Scott H. Biram...
He's an old friend from the Austin area, and we worked at the same pizza place for a few months,
long before he got into what he's been doing musically, (he was lucky to get to play open mic nights at this point)
and we were fucking around after lunch rush and we were just throwing shit around the kitchen... dough, sauce, whatever...
I grabbed an ice tea spoon as he ran out of the kitchen towards the dining room,
and I just turned and launched it... without looking at it
flew within an inch of his head and stuck into the wall behind him...
never underestimate the power of the spoon...
I pretty much hate hardcore these days and enjoy listening to just about anything else...
so I'll be checking out all these links at work

Somehow forgot to mention Chip Hanna, former drummer for U.S. Bombs and One Man Army, he now does seriously old school Country stuff that sounds like
it should be played between Ernest Tubb and Hank Sr. He has some amazing albums out and a couple of 'em have some reworked Punk songs that sound like
they should have been played by Country bands as standards for decades. He does a Bombs song and a Bouncing Souls song in that way and it's fantastic.

That's the best description of christianity I've ever heard.
Well, its this place where nobody works, and the pigs don\'t give you any shit. Everyone smokes weed and gets drunk all day. Its a place where
cunts like me and you can truly take it easy and relax. Know what I mean?
