reunion storm

Although - before I get incoming missiles - I certainly appreciate bands like Killing time, Neglect and now apparently Token Entry doing reunion gigs,... I must admit I'm trying to find out what bug has bitten so many dead-and-gone bands to do a comeback - either just some gigs or something more. It's a trend, a hype,.... a new millenium bug?

Fahrenheit, Iron Cross, YOT, Uppercut, Killing Time, Token Entry, Trial, Neglect,... and many more. When is it Judge's turn? Or GB? Or maybe a quick Project X reunion gig? Or Absolution (now that would be a killer!)? And maybe Sheer Terror's farewell gig last year was an opportunity for a reunion next year? Just rockin' the boat, but the scene has never ever seen such an explosion of reunions. And this week: "the return of...."

i'm sure part of it has to do with timing - these are all bands that were active around the same time, many of whom wrapped up around the same time. after being off the stage for so long, and considering the popularity of hardcore these days, i understand it. all us old guys are nostalgic!

and also that the sound these bands produced is lacking in the newer generation,.............. especially for old dogs like us who were in our teens/twenties in the 80s.

I'm not sure about any of the other reunions but I know that Rennie was talking to Steve from Uppercut for a month or so before the shows and he said that they and Killing Time had been practicing there asses off for about a year. I don't necessarily dig the whole nostalgia train that seems to have pulled into town, but hats off to Uppercut and KT for putting in the work and not just throwing a few rehearsal together, embarrassing themselves, and collecting a nice check. These are 2 bands that are genuine classics, not history revisionist posterboys and I'm glad they played and I hope the checks were nice because they EARNED them. Now call me when Articles of Faith or The Amebix do a reunion show...

If you want to read the greatest liner notes about why a band reunited to go to europe, read the notes in the Articles of Faith live album. Simple, honest, and heartbreaking.

I don't think a Judge reunion will ever happen. Its been discussed a few different times, but Mike doesn't want to. Of course anything is possiblle, but I doubt it.

I'm sure Burn will probably play again soon. I don't consider that a reunion since its seems to happen every few years. At least the last time they did it they recorded a pretty decent record.

I highly doubt it. I believe this show is July 3rd, right? Well, Leslie's scheduled for a c-section on July 6th, but I doubt she'll make it to that date, so its pretty safe to say that I won't be there. Oh well....
