The Trouble

I love this band but know nothing about them. The one album they released was fucking incredible. Were the members involved with any other bands before or after The Trouble?

Not sure, but they are fucking awesome. Saw them a handfull of times back in the day. They were supposed to do a reunion show a few years back but it never happened... I have their cd, the 2 7in they put out, and a 7in from some magazine with one of their tracks on it.

way underrated and often confused with the band TROUBLE that toured with Pantera & White Zombie in the early 90's

Gibby, the lead singer, went on to start the website makeoutclub.com. It was kind of a pre-cursor to Friendster, MySpace and FaceBook. So in many ways he is responsible to this whole social networking thing. And that doesn't surprise me at all. Gibby has ALWAYS been ahead of the pack. He's what they refer to in business as an opinion leader. People watch him for trends in fashion and shit. It's very odd but very cool. He also sang for a band called Panic that did some records on Bridge 9 after The Trouble broke up.

Sam went on to play in a band called The Explosion that were on Jade Tree and then Virgin. They broke up a couple of years ago but they were very good.

The Trouble were quite the enigma. There was something magical about where they were at the time they made this record. They were like 4 kids that just had some killer chemistry and genuine ideas. Part of me is very happy that they never made another record. Cuz how could they beat the one they made.

Gibby was such a strange singer too. Some times I'd see them and he'd sing like he did on that record. Some time he'd sing in this weird falsetto voice which was less satisfying than the voice you hear on the record. They made the record twice essentially. They recorded it live the week before they made the official album. Sam played it for me and Gibby sang in that other voice. The next week he sang in the one you hear on the CD. And that really sums them up. When they were on they were ON. And when they sucked it was atrocious. I have many fond memories of that band playing shows. They've become quite the legend around here since. If you were to believe the way people talk you'd think they had 1000 people at every show and they were local heroes. And that wasn't really true. They were the band that opened every show. They released that record and broke up 5 months later. They never had the chance to be that big band that people reference them as. But they have this legacy that will live on for years in punk rock and hardcore. And I think that's a better deal.

Oh. And Gibby was also the original singer for what became Sinners & Saints. That didn't work out at the time but it would have been cool to hear.

Nobody Laughs Anymore is an amazing album, its hard to imagine it sung any different way, it would be interesting it to hear the other recording.

Well I've got a feeling I'm gonna get mine in. Retribution let the games begin.

Soo true! Gibby deffinetly seemed like an "interesting" guy. Saw him perform at the Elvis Room once in the middle of the summer in what looked like a ladies winter jacket with a huge fur colar. They put on one hell of a show every time I saw them and never did a pit feel as right as when "Saturdays Kids" started up.

Thanks Mark. Info on the band has always seemed scarce at best. I'll have to check out Panic.

"Nobody Laughs Anymore" is one of those timeless CD's that don't happen very often in punk music. Now you guys have me wanting to hear it again today.

I didnt know that the singer from The Trouble was in Panic, but thats cool. I'lll have to check them out too. The only thing I know about Panic is that on the B9 board when someone posts something thats really old news, everyone replys "PANIC BROKE UP?"

I dig Panic, I actually heard them before I heard Trouble. I saw them play at a joint called Cogans right after I moved to VA along with Converge. It was really good and I like Panic alot.

Definitely a classic. The only good thing about a band like them breaking up so fast is they never turn to shit. They fall into a category with bands like NA and Minor Threat, they kicked ass and never put out a bad record.
