Saw RANCID last night
They put on an awesome show, but they only played for 1/2 an hour which sucked. Great set though only played a couple of songs off of each album. Rise
Againest was the headliner and they sucked. They came out on stage with an american flag hanging upside down, which pissed me off so I threw a couple
of beers at them, then me and my friends walked out. Still pissed about the flag being hung upside down/

I find it odd that Rancid would be opening for Rise Against.

doesn't the flag being upside down refer to something specific?
like a sign of distress or something?
i don't think it's an anti-american stance or anything.
i'm racking my brains to think where i read about it.

The ole upside down flag was a trick that Anti-Flag used for many years. It gets people's attention. So it's a success.
Rise Against are pretty huge right now. They have 2 gold records and Rancid has been out of the public eye for a while (no new record I mean). Most of
their fans have outgrown them so they need to go out and play to a new crop of younger kids. In that regard it makes sense and it's probably a smart
move for them.
I like Rise Against but I have no interest in ever seeing them live.

I know it means distress, but in my opinion that is desacrating the flag. And Idon't care how much you hate the government, that flag stand for al the
soldiers who have served this country and protected this country. My brother being one of them. I would rather die fighting than to ever raise a flag
in distress.

Is Rancid headlining in some cities or is it this way the whole tour?
The new Rancid CD is very good....now that i think, it has been a while since rancid had a record out....
I never knew what the inverted flag meant.....

I hate that shit. I saw MINISTRY in 2002 and they were going off about amercia and it was awful. A Cuban heroine addict bitching to everyone about
U.S. politics? WTF? SHUT UP AND PLAY BURNING INSIDE YOU TOOL.
Each aspect of the soul has it's own part to play, but the ideal is harmonious agreement with reason and control.

Hard to disagree with much of what Jourgensan says a lot of the time. He actually backs up statements with facts, as opposed to a lot of the
knee-jerk reactionaries in the punk scene.

I'm fine with bands doing this sort of thing. Sometimes you don't get your voice heard unless you scream out for attention. But I also agree that it's
preferrable to hear some sort of intelligence in a message. Very few artists do that eloquently especially in punk rock. I'll listen to Bruce
Springsteen or Conor Oberst criticize before a punk band. Especially since I'm aware that about 99.9% of punk bands out there are full of shit and
chasing a dollar. But it is a very American thing to do to criticize. That's really the whole point.

Plus, there's that First Amendment and everything. You can walk out on a band for that, but it's kind of short-sighted, immature and quite frankly
stupid to chuck a beer at them because your brother and other soldiers are fighting for their right to do just what you think they shouldn't be doing.

Thinking about it now I should have just left without incident, but sometimes I get caught up in the heat of the moment. Usually I am the one with the
cooler head and try to keep melo, but last night I just went off. Happens to the best of us.

I don't think an upside down flag is at all bad. We are certainly in times of distress in this country.
Burning a flag is a whole different story though. That I do not tolerate.
