My descent into madness

After way too long putting it off, I finally got some homebrewing gear. So here's my first attempt, a Russian Imperial Stout:

Ingredients

Waiting for steeping temperature

Grains about to go into the pot

In go the grains

Steeping grains

Malt extract ready to go in

Yup, starting to look stouty to me....

Boiling away...

Mmmmm.....

Time to cool down....in goes the Wort Chiller

Wort chiller doing its thing

Into the ferementer we go

Ready to start fermenting

Nice set up man better than one I use to use. Is this the first time you have homebrewed or just first time doing a Russian Imperial Stout? SOme of the best ones i made was a Belgian Tripel, Smoked Porter, and an Imperial Octoberfest.

Well I've got a feeling I'm gonna get mine in. Retribution let the games begin.

First RIS as well as first homebrew. It's like anything else, if you're not interested in it it's a bit of work but I thought it was a lot of fun. Shittiest part was cleaning up afterwards, it was a bit messy but not that terrible really considering.

Coolest thread in a long time. Where did you get the equipment and recipes to do this?

Thanks Clevo. I got most of my supplies from a local homebrew shop, though they can be easily ordered online if need be. Got a couple things from Walmart and my Wort Chiller off of eBay. The recipe was from the homebrew shop but there's a ton of them online as well for any style you want. Only thing I'm changing is a couple minor hop changes (more + some dry hopping as well). You should give it a shot, you too DAK. It wasn't that difficult. No kidding about the wait, it'll definitely be awhile. It should come out around 9% and should be better with a little age on it.

That's cool Juan, I can imagine that would be a pretty cool job.

my beer store was giving glasses away if you buy a case of Yards.
I am particularly fond of the one with the yellow label, i forget which it is.

Since it's a fairly big beer (lots of fermentable sugar for the yeast to eat) I'm planning somewhere in the area of 2 weeks in the primary, another 3-4 in the secondary and a couple weeks in the bottles to carbonate. Luckily Imperial stouts only get better with age on em. Gonna be a lonnnng wait :sniffle:
