Dear Straight Edge Community. . .

Fuck off with your stupid fucking movies and documentaries. Jesus Christ every time a movie is made about this shit it is always a bunch of fucking nerds talking shit. Ok your straight edge, who fucking cares!!!

Perhaps I will make a documentary about how I drink I bet tons of people would love to see that and I will say things like: Well man I was drinking a beer and I was like fuck I am doing this for me and only for me. I just don't understand people who have to reply on being straight edge to get through the day. Man when you drink it means you drink for life man, and all the time every waking moment of the day. Bro if your not drunk now then you never were.

No disrespect to the guys on this site that are edge, but really stop making movies.

And Ian you are a fucking faggot that needs to be shot in the face.

End rant.

LOL I can't argue with this. When I was into this stuff I never X'd up and never walked around telling people about it. I just kept hanging out with friends and drank Pepsi if they were drinking alcohol. Then I discovered vodka & whiskey, and it's been fun :D

A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

I dont understand why you would be angry that they are making movies about it? Its not like they are being mass marketed and you see it on tv, ads etc and cant avoid them.

I agree that they really are almost all the same, allthough I only know of 1-2 sXe documentarys.

as far as making a movie about drinking... i say go for it. I bet a documentary on a small brewery or a home brewing company could be cool.

what gets me about a good deal of these self-professed "positive" folk,is that they're always so angry...yellin',screamin',pointing fingers, breaking down walls...it's like a surreal job fair.

Who' the band in the clip too, that sounded pretty bad. I still dig listening to solid edge bands like Strife & Snapcase among other bands around that time, though I never got into the 80's edge music at all.

i saw some sxe thing on either the history channel or natgeo recently and i had to turn it off it was so gay.
to each their own and all but I could really give a toot what some 18 year old dickbag with a sleeve of X tattoos and a chain of strength throwback has to say.
its not like this is some new sensation thats sweeping the nation.
its old
if youre making positive changes in your live, then that is awesome.
but some of the people are just too much.
not saying that any of the drunks i associate myself with are any better though....

i actually used a paul quote in a conversation with paul once.
didn't realize it until hours later.

"Peter Young is an animal rights activist. In March 2005 he was arrested to serve a sentence of 2 years in prison. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in 1998 on charges related to fur farm raids in Iowa, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. He lived underground for seven years, before being arrested in San Jose.
Since his release in February 2007 Young has been giving speeches on his experiences with the animal liberation movement across the United States."

That right there is why I can't support this movie.

I LOVE how that gets lumped in with edge sometimes... Fucking vegan edge. I love meat too much. Anything I eat has to have had a face at one point.

More than the movies, I'm sick of edge bands who don't sing about anything except being edge. One song on an album about being edge is enough. Broaden you horizens a little bit.

Plus I laugh at any new jack hardcore kid screaming about being "TROO TILL DETH" when they've only been listening to hardcore for 6 months. It's easy to scream it when you're 15, but let's see how you feel about when you hit legal drinking age.

I truly just don't see the significance of straight edge. There are probably more people around the world who technically live a straight edge lifestyle and have no idea what the fuck straight edge even is, then those who rep it. If you were a drug addict, suckin dicks for a hit and then completely abstained for the rest of your life, and lived a "edge" lifestyle that is praiseworthy. If you just never did drugs, that doesn't seem that impressive. My mom has caught a buzz twice in her entire life, my uncle has never even had a sip of beer, but they don't go around touting these facts or making documentaries and bad music about it.

The self righteous notion that a dietary choice or abstaining from drugs somehow makes you more open minded or even revolutionary (paraphrasing an Immortal Technique song there) is also something I view with contempt.

to me straight edge is a silly novelty that maybe keeps some kids off drugs (which I personally think is a good thing). The whole concept is silly to begin with, but who can take people like RAY OF TODAY, KARL CRISIS, MIKE JUDGE or any of PB2K seriously???

You know, I don't sit around here or really anywhere else reppin' straight edge(but, man, when I was 18 you'd be hard pressed not to get me to talk about) but I really don't see the point of getting your panties in a bunch about a bunch of guys talking about the whole thing. Sure, it's tired and what not... but there's always a new generation of kids that gravitate towards straight edge for one reason or another. For me it was a gateway to making greater strides in thought and action. From straight edge to veganism to Islam and with Islam came the lessening of the need to always self-identify as "straight edge" or even "vegan" in the sense of an identity. It's largely a dietary habit for me now, as far as that goes. Not sure I even really subscribe to the philosophy of veganism entirely anymore. But I digress. Point being, there's always someone new to come along and have this thing feel really good for them. For whatever their reasons.

Some people go through nightmares of drug and alcohol problems and the identity of straight edge and the group of like minded people that is the straight edge "community" gives them something to hold onto that is perhaps more powerful than what AA or any of those things can give them. And that's fucking awesome. I knew a guy that was in jail for heroin and other shit, and he met some straight edge guy in jail and it saved his fucking life. Then there are kids, much like myself, who aren't cool by any means in school don't feel any particular urge to "party" and thus drink and perhaps get into drugs. They see their friends do some fucked up shit via drugs and alcohol, maybe even a family member, but they just feel low because... well, they don't participate in those things. They are outsiders, and outcasts because they don't party. They get into punk rock, because let's face it anyone that feels like an outsider at some point gravitates towards punk rock, discover Minor Threat or whoever... meet some straight edgers at a show and realize there are people who think like they do in regards to drugs and alcohol and smokes and they are having a fucking blast and it's not something corny like DARE or some kind of church group or whatever. It's punk rock, it's moshin', and there are some cute girls into it too! Hot Damn! Makes them feel good, gives them a place to go and a place to turn and some self-worth that they might have been lacking before hand. These kids are going to want to express what straight edge means to them and they are going to makes songs, movies, art, write fucking books, comic books etc. More importantly, the old timers have something to tell them too and can, hopefully, set the record straight on some shit too. Reorient some kids maybe about their elitism.

Of course, there's also the issue of the occasional hostility that non-edge people show to edge kids. Sometimes it has it's origins in older dudes' annoyance with new jacks and their pride 6 months into the scene. Sometimes it's because people have seen asshole straight edgers. Sometimes the non-edge folks are just being assholes themselves. And guess what? That hostility doesn't turn these kids away from straight edge and it doesn't calm their enthusiasm for it either. What it does is tells them that it's them(and their small community of friends in most cases) against the whole fucking world. The only respect they get is within their small circle of straight edge pals, and it tells them that the rest can go to fucking hell.

If you don't want to see the "Bring Back Prohibition" types, then don't be dickheads to straight edge noobs. If you don't want to see hostile vegan bands, don't be dickheads to them because of their enthusiasm for their cause. You've gotta be more mature than those you think are being immature dickheads, and that means tolerating some of that shit. They might just be new to the whole thing. Like anyone else, they are going to be reppin' their new thing like crazy for a while. If tolerance is what you want out of a given party, you've gotta give tolerance to them and sometimes perhaps a little bit more.

Also, as regards the Peter Young thing... I honestly don't see the problem there. The guy went to jail for doing what he believes is morally righteous for the sake of protecting innocent lives from horrible deaths. The worst crime he committed is vandalism and "theft" if you consider a living being "property." Law=/=morality.

One last thing, there are a bazillion and a half movies made about doing drugs, drinking beers, and "having a good time." Very few movies that actively discourage young people from doing all that shit. Every movie made about college life is about how you're supposed to get wasted and fuck a bunch of random sorority whores, etc. There's no harm in a straight edge movie. Damn, the one movie I can remember that had a constant representation of a straight edgers the whole time was that Marlon Wayans movie with the experimental drugs and the dude that played Shaggy in those Scooby Doo movies and in SLC Punk was edge in that one. By the end he married an black chick and become an afro-centric dashiki wearer drinking champagne.
