An illusion I know is real but it still seems unreal...
This is an old one but I thought I would post it here. My fiance had never seen it and was swearing up and down that there is no way the 2 squares
are the same color. Had to put it in photoshop and show her the values are the same. I had done the same to prove to myself they were the same shade
back when I first saw it. Boggles my mind...

Me either, but it is. Tested it in photoshop a few times and still find it hard to believe. It is VERY a well done illusion.

haha wow. I thought it meant the letters. But yeah in photoshop they are indeed the same gray.

so what causes the illusion the lines or the the cylinder and the shadow, both?

I think the shadow is the biggest, but I think the surrounding squares are also darker so the contrast of the blocks around it make it seem lighter
than it really is.

monty's is cool because you can see how the lines he drew appear to shift in color from one square to the next. the surrounding tiles trick your eye
into seeing a gradient in the line.
