Need help with an assignment

For my western Civilization class I have to do a chronicle of my life, with important personal events and general events in history for each year. For historical events we can do anything, and since punk/hardcore music is large aspect of my life these days I want to include that.

Since I was playing in the sandbox and finger painting while alot of you were at your most active; any events (record releases, band creation/disbanding, etc.) from the late 80's and 90's that you guys would consider to be important in the development of modern day punk/hardcore would help out alot.
I am going to do my own research as well, but the more info the better.

Thanks!

I would look into Minor Threat release and the dawn of Straight Edge. That could be an interesting one.
