Did your parents give you 'the talk'?

How old were you?

Study shows 40% of kids are doin' the business before the talk:

think i was like 9 or so.
it came about because a older kid on my block pretty much told me "you stick your pecker in a girl and out comes a baby"
i came home and told my mom while she was reading the newspaper......short stunned moment, then i got the low down from what i remember.

My dad finally broke down and laid it on me when he came home and my girlfriend and I were making out on the floor. Funny thing is, had he come home an hour earlier, he would have known it was waaayyy too late to try to talk about it.

never had it. First time I banged a chick I was 14. Parents never gave a shit to think about that stuff.

We got "sex ed" in 5th grade and then we had it in 6th when I switched to public school. We had it one hour every day for two weeks in 6th grade. I was "in the know".

My mom, God love her, tried in a car ride during 8th grade but I just sort of interupted and told her I knew what was up. She made a great effort. She really did. She went with "You know, some of your friends are going to try things..." She really made a good effort and I'm sure I didn't make it easier.

never got the talk. I think my mother came close when I was about 9, but she was drunk with a short attention span.

Got sex ed. in junior high school. Not long after that, my old man asked me if we needed to have the talk. I told him it was covered.

I had sex ed in 5th grade and I think again maybe in jr high health class. I don't really remember my parents giving me the talk, but I wasn't a super confident dude in HS... I didn't have sex til I was 20, and that was with my now wife.

My mum would never have approached that subject, my dad however, told me from a very early age that if he ever found out i was doing anything with boys, then i wouldnt ever see the light of day again! not exactly 'the talk' but his own version i suppose, for years only my mum knew i had boyfriends and so on and my dad then sat me down a few years later and asked if i was a lesbian because he never saw me with any guys! haha.

Also just to add, i was just on the phone to one of my friends and mentioned this post just asking her if either of her parents ever had the talk with her as shes a fair bit older than me and apparantly, as she hit 16, her mother asked her if she knew what a blowjob was and said she could come to her for tips and then imformed her that she had lots of porn and if she ever needed to use any it was in the top drawer by her bed! wtf?!

Never had a talk, I learned from Sue.

A lot of people ask me what kind of music I like. I love "soul music". My "soul music" isn’t a style, genre or niche. It’s music that is genuine. It’s a painful lyric, a dirty bassline, it’s a harrowing vocal, it’s feedback, it’s an anthem, it’s a love song, it’s anarchy. I’ve got my personal favourites but in the end it doesn’t matter who or where it comes from... so long as it’s good and it's real.

i grew up w/ my mom and step-dad. i was given a book at some point, maybe around 4th or 5th grade. couple years later, maybe around 7th grade, my step-dad decided to broach the topic while we were on a FIVE HOUR DRIVE. conversation wasn't that long, but the awkwardness lasted forever. my dad just talked about it straight up, like i was one of the guys, but always in his rodney dangerfield voice.

so now that you're older, what do you think would be (or would have been) the best way to handle it?
those of you that are parents, do you have a plan?
