Black Metal fans - my review of UNTIL THE LIGHT TAKES US...
I saw it Saturday night in NYC.
I tried to see it Friday but both the 7pm and 9:15 shows were totally sold out! Hell, when I arrived @ 6:35 to see it at 7, there was a line down the
fucking block!
Anyway, I liked it.
The doc. is NOT a "history of BM in Norway" film at all though.
The meat of it is about 2 people in particular - Varg from BURZUM and Fenriz from DARKTHRONE.
Also in it - Faust from EMPEROR (who's face is blurred and voice modified), Abbath and Demonaz from IMMORTAL, Hellhammer from Mayhem, Frost from
SATYRICON, and briefly - Garm from ULVER.
I don't want to say much more or spoil it for anyone, but I will say that I think everyone on the board who likes or is curious about Black Metal
should see it. Both Varg and Fenriz are really funny and smart.
After the film, the directors were there and did a Q&A with the audience. They seemed very sincere and cool and talked about how they were introduced
to Black Metal by the owner of the record shop Aquarius Records years ago.
They had 350 hrs of footage to turn into a 90 minute documentary and as a result, some stuff was left out. They did say there will be a dvd with all
of the ENSLAVED interviews/footage that was left out of the final film and the extras will be as long as the film itself, which is awesome.
So yes, worth seeing if it comes to your town for sure.

Sticking with the Black Metal theme here. I reviewed the new Dark Funeral album on my website, any fans or people looking for some solid black metal
should check this album out.
