WWII vet fought for US & Soviet Union
Amazing story...
The highly decorated Staff Sgt. Beyrle parachuted into Normandy on D-Day with the U.S. 101st Airborne Division and was captured by the Germans. He
escaped and joined a Soviet tank battalion before he was wounded near Berlin and sent home through Moscow.

That's pretty cool. When one thinks of the Cold War that followed WWII, it's hard to imagine cooperation between U.S. and Russian soldiers. Of
course, it was politicians and not soldiers that brought about the Cold War.

my uncle frank was captured by the nazis in WW2
at 19 years old he was starvin in a nazi camp. on xmas day he smashed a pigeon or some other dirty bird with a rock. that was xmas dinner for him and
some others.
nother reason i just didn't like the "nazi dudes" growin up.
he was a mean bastard.
looked and talked like Laurence Tierney (boss from reservoir dogs)
was an ATF agent until retirement age
poor bastard got HIV from a blood transfusion during bypass surgery in the early 80s
that guy was a tuff mofo. beleive me
..anyway cool story .

Goddamn, your uncle sounds like he was a fucking kickass guy.
The story in the link is intense. The 2 words of Russian he knew probably saved him from getting shot by pissed off Russians.
