Dark Lord Day 2010

Tickets sold out in one hour. I have two. My wife rules so much it's not even funny. I'm stuck in Iowa. Over.

Steel Nation rules ok.

Damn you Jason! ;) Looks like a really good time. Me and Dave went to Kate the Great Day a couple weeks ago. They were supposed to start handing out calendar pages for bottles at 7AM, and start selling at 9AM. We lined up at 5:40 and discovered they had handed them out starting at midnight and just gave the last one out. No bottles for us, cept a few other beers of theirs. The rest of their lineup is quite tasty, including a really good milk stout. Fucking pissed me off to see a bunch of bottles on ebay immediately after that day. It'd be really nice to see the hype train biters move on to something new.

Curious to see if it's the same 4 bottles per ticket limit. Looking at BA, it seems like almost 6000 orders went through in an hour (gotta figure most of those were 2 tickets each)...that's pretty nuts. Crashed the site of their sales provider several times.

to give a scale of how many knuckleheads will STILL be there in the shitty weather...their parking map. Outside of the green lots the entire street from the main traffic light street wrapping all the way around past FFF and to the other entrance to that street will also be packed w/ cars except where that bold red line/lines are.

Somehow i completely missed out on that Smoked Oatmeal Porter from Victory.
Everytime I was there over the winter they were out and now it's done for the season.

I think all those breweries save small amounts for "event" tappings. That Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout is the same way...the 4 packs went on sale and were gone 2 day later...but it keeps popping up randomly at places on tap.

Have fun Jason. Should be some good beers being shared in the lineup too, so keep an eye out

Total....clusterfuck. Least amount of fun I've ever had at a beer related event. Got my 6 allotted bottles and fled the scene before I flipped out. Way too many fucking people.

http://blogs.post-trib.com/bort/2010/04/dark-lord-day-live-b...

3rd picture down....imagine that wide ass line going back about 200 feet then branching in 2 different directions once it hit the street, with both branches about 1/4mi long. 2.5 hr wait once I got in line around 2:30.

Yeah that was because they weren't allowing anyone on the property untill like 10am...so all the people that had been there since like 6am rushed up to the door as soon as they were allowed in the lot. Kind of stupid...I can understand not wanting people loitering about...but get a normal line going right off the bat.

But that's 3 Floyds...if they can't do it half assed they wont do it at all. They do make one hell of a beer though. Finally getting to sit here and enjoy a bottle and it's pretty damn amazing.

Yeah, I'm hearing more than a few bad things about this year's DLD. Mostly about rude, ignorant staff there. Sounds like pretty piss poor organization. Agreed about the beer though, very good stuff

I think the main problem with the event is they always try to improve what they did wrong last year. The reason that's a problem, is they're not getting the crowd from last year, they're getting the crowd for this year. If you have a party and 100 people show up and you were prepared for 10 you're obviously goign to have issues. So next year when you have a party and prepare for 100 people and 500 people show up you're going to have a whole new set of issues.

At this point the event is like a snowball, picking up momentum and people each year. It definitely has outgrown the property...but I don't know that'd be the same somewhere else....and frankly I don't know that they'd want to try it. Right now they're paying people to clean up their property and neighbors property. To move it and have to also rent a space is a huge financial loss compared to what they have now. Ultimately people are going to keep showing up...so alienating the old salt of FFF crowd is a small price to pay. I don't believe that FFF doesn't care about their customers like some of the BA cuckoo's are ranting about...but this is a huge money maker for them and a huge free ad...it was in every damn paper in the Chicago metro area. It'll be interesting to see how they adress the problems of this year. The biggest of which would be dropping the bottle allottment from 4 per ticket to 3 and the total disregard for sineage of any type. Really some cheap posterboard and sharpy signs for what tent was what so you at last had a fighting chance to figure out what line you were in would have been a HUGE improvement.

The complaints about the FFF staff I'd take with a grain of salt. I'm sure some of them had had their fill by the end of the day, there were a LOT of morons there...which is no excuse to be rude, but the bartenders in the brewpub get stressed out when they have more than 3 orders at once (even though it's always packed) so those people should be glad they didn't go postal.

For sure, I've never been there myself and I'm only going on what I've heard (previously as well as on DLD). I'd be pretty unimpressed about the bottle limit dropping part way through the day, that's pretty greasy. Anyways, at least you got your bottles. Enjoy!
