Agreed. Some significant departures from the book, but since Millar and Romita Jr were exec producers I have a feeling that those departures may have been partially their ideas.

Insanely fun, insanely funny, insanely violent. Though, violence wise, tame compared to the book and tame compared to movies like Kill Bill and Ninja Assassin. Violence along those lines, just not nearly as graphic. By the "controversy" you'd think it was though.

Hit Girl is awesome.

Yeah, They pulled off Hit Girl VERY well! I was afraid she was either A) going to be toned down ALOT more and / or B) She would come off as just corny. NEITHER was the case. Nic Cage was hilarious and the father / daughter conection / story line was played very well.

I usually hate Nic Cage with a passion... but I think he was perfect for this one. At least the way it was played. I don't think he could've been Big Daddy if it were toned with less humor like the book.

I was surprised they didn't give us the twists that the book does, but I can see why and I wasn't disappointed by them at all. I don't want to spoil either the book or the movie for anyone, so I'm not going to go there.

Yeah, I wanna see it again. Have you checked out the comic books?

Here is a download link for the comic but you need a CBR (Comic Book Reader) to view it.

I sat and read the hardcover collection Thursday at Borders. Such a great comic, way more brutal than the movie I have to say.

Normally I'd be a little miffed at film departures from the comic source material... and Kick-Ass the movie does so in some seriously significant ways. Far more significant that most other comic book movies. Ways that change the story completely. Oddly, totally acceptable for me. It wasn't like the major change to Watchmen, which none the less did not change the story. What is changed in Kick-Ass changes everything, but it's totally acceptable to me because it seems to me it's a direction that Millar and Romita JR wanted to explore and thus the movie is a sort of "what if" for the comic.

That might be different if Millar and Romita JR weren't Exec Producers, and knowing that this thing was made independently without studio support or interference... I have a feeling that Millar and Romita had plenty of input on those decisions.

Turns out I didn't need the Viewer/Reader thing, the program on my mac called Preview works just fine and the Viewer I downloaded didn't work at all. The comic is awesome though, thanks xnMex

a cbr is pretty much just a zip file, if you "unzip" it there will be a .jpg for each page of the comic.
