Business record release in Revere (my review)

so I actually dragged myself out of my cave last night and drove to lovely downtown Revere, MA.

I got there a little early and hung out, outside with Mike Resist and a few other people. Once people started going in I hung out inside and talked to Shawn Refuse, Mike McCarthy (For The Worse), TJ Welch & his son Owen, Mark Powers, Ed Lali & his girlfriend Heather, Chad Beantown and a few other people.

Then our guests of honor finally arrived. They made a 6 hour drive that took closer to 9 hours, but they did not dissapoint. I finally got to meet BD and Thorp!

All I wanna say is that everyone that ever posts on this board that I have ever met fall in to a group of the nicest people ever! Hopefully I get to meet more of you guys evetually, but I have no doubt you all great people too.

Oh yeah... the show was awesome too!

Burning Streets was good. They actually did an awesome Operation Ivy cover at soundcheck that I wish they would have played again.

Beantown Boozehounds were amazing (see other thread)! They covered 'Going Down the Bar' and there was beer flying everywhere for almost the whole set.

Refuse Resist was next. This was the first time I saw them play with Steve and he does add a lot. He has so much energy its crazy! His daughter also sang in 'Still In Massachusetts' which was very cool.

Hollowpoints played 4th and to be honest at first I wasnt that into them, but after a few songs I was sucked in and was practicly singing along to songs I didnt know the words to! For some reason the songs reminded me of The Descendents. Not musically or lyrically, but just in the sense that they are songs that my brain wanted to sing along with!

Finally... The Business! Its hard to believe that Micky Fitz is as old as he is (50's-60's?). They were awesome... all the hits, at least 1 song off the new CD (which is also awesome).

So.... Thank you to Shawn for letting me in free. Thank you to Mike, Chad, Ed, TJ, Heather, Mark and everyone else I talked to. Thanks to all the bands that were awesome. and BIG thanks to BD and Thorp for being awesome guys. I'm ready to be on the payroll Andy!

Also I picked up the HOLLOWPOINTS cd, the BUSINESS cd and the BEANTOWN BOOZEHOUNDS cd. I got the BUSINESS 'coat of arms' shirt, the REFUSE RESIST 'gasmask shirt' and I got a SAILORS GRAVE shirt!

They all rule!

we don't talk about showcase shirts or people start to ask questions....
I like it and the gas mask shirts, and not just because I had more than a hand in them

The gasmask is a great design, but I'm a sucker for a gasmask anyway!

I saw the business once back in the 90's and loved it. Too bad they can't get into Canada. I love that shirt and it should definitely be made for sale to those of us who are too far to make the show.

I had an awesome awesome time at this. This was a lot of fun. It was great to see Josh and Duane and meeting Andy was awesome. Top notch dudes right there. Shawn is the man for booking and putting on shows like this. He does so much to help the scene and I really hope he gets recognized for that. WICKED good show guy. So much fun.

Except for whoever stole Steve Risteens camera. That person should be killed. Ruined a great a moment between steve and his daughter singing Still in Mass with us. The camera had that footage on it.

Sounds like it was a good time Josh. That many Thorps together in one place? You better have a picture :smug b:

How was the turn out? The Business have been up and down here over the years. There was a time where they could pull a solid 500. Then there's been other times when they were much lower than that.

Sorry I couldn't make it. I had a work thing I had to do which was about a half mile away from the show. :umm:

They have an "ok" draw. It was a good, kinda full show. I honestly thought you would be supporting your band mate in Cambridge. :)

There were about 250 people I'd say (210 paid, then bands and guests). Not as great as I would have liked, but going up against the Hardcore fest, Confront and a slew of other things (Lemmy movie actually hurt the draw too hahah) I was very happy with the turnout. I was hoping for 300 like last year.

That's actually more people than they had last time I saw them! Not bad. You're right though; there was a lot going on Friday night.

thought about it, but i don;t have your number. plus, it was a very last minute decision. sunday was my daughter's birthday, so it was only after everyone was out of the house, the kids were in bed and the place was cleaned up that i decided to head down. left at 8:50, in the club (despite the storm) by 10:20. i was back stage (or next door, i guess) after the show, so i don't think anyone was aware of the fight.
