There's a big debate about this on Huffington Post right now as to whether this is for real. Apparently there are three or four separate freediving depth records, depending on who you talk to. Looks impressive enough to me though.

Couple of thoughts here:

1. How do you not instantly shit yourself out of fear going into that hole
2. This guys has to have a screw lose
3. Record or no record this is straight up impressive

i think it's meant to be a film not a record attempt or anything. they said it was many dives over the course of a few days and that he never reached the bottom.

i'm with chris... there's no way you'd catch me anywhere near that precipice. did you see at the very end when he was getting out - it looks like that hole is just off the coast. wild.

Yeah, they updated the story on HuffPo. It's definitely a neat little piece of video. The soundtrack reminds me of something, but I can't remember what. The location is Dean's Blue Hole in the Bahamas.

I am working on controlling breathing with systema, but that is unreal. Not only does he hold his breath for that long but doing that task must be stressful in itself.

Yeah, the lung capacity thing itself is impressive. I'd have been panicking for breath before I even dove into the abyss.

However, my main reason for not doing that... who knows what ancient beast lay dozing at the bottom of that hole. I wouldn't want to wake up fucking Cthullu.
