anyone got suround sound?

I just got a suround sound/blu-ray set up. I bought it used from a guy at work, but its basicly brand new. He even had the original box and every piece of original packing material!

Anyway, I got it hooked up and its awesome for movies. The thing I'm not sure how to do is use it watching TV. Keep in mind that I'm a TOTAL idiot when it comes to this stuff and I had ALOT of help setting it up.

Right now I know that the Blu-Ray player/Reciever is plugged into the TV with an HDMI cable. I also have a VCR, XBox and Wii and all three are plugged directly into the TV. We also have a Digital cable box that is plugged into the TV.

So basicly everything is plugged into the TV and nothing is plugged into each other.

So if I wanna watch Cable TV with suround sound on or play XBox games with suround sound what do I have to do?

thanks guys!

audio out from TV to Surround Sound.

OR

Depending on your surround sound system, you can hook everything up to it (blue-ray, Xbox Wii Etc.), and then connect to TV.

what exactly is the sound sound system?

are you using a receiver? and are the speakers attached to it? ideally, you'd use the best output method for each device (HDMI for bluray, component video for vcr, etc) and run them directly into the receiver. then you'd run a single HDMI cable to your TV.

If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

I use one of these...

Digital Optical Audio Cable

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Belkin-AV20000B03-PureAV-Blue-Seri...

One thing that sucks is other than the direct dvd player / blue ray player everything else may have a slight audio delay. It is not noticeable on Xbox (except maybe for Guitar Hero / Rock Band) really but my TV delay is a bit odd. There is a way to adjust it but mine has been a pain to try and adjust right.

I think what Dave said is the best bet.

Its not a super expensive set up. I think it was about $600 new and I got it for $200 (with a copy of Wolverine on Blu-Ray).

Its one where the Blu-Ray player is the reciever so you cant hook other stuff to it. It does have a thing for what I think is AUDIO IN from the TVs AUDIO OUT and that should do it. There is also a thing for a cable like Monty suggested on the Blu-Ray/Reciever and I assume I have that on my TV too, but I dont have that cable so I might just try the RCAs the way Dave suggested.

Its a Panasonic SC-BT200
1000 watts
7.1 (6 speakers + a center + a subwoofer)

Pretty good deal for $200 I think!
