STILL BEATING (free compilation)

Performer Magazine and TEENAGE HEART Offer Online Compilation

BOSTON, MA: TEENAGE HEART, in partnership with Performer Magazine, is proud to present STILL BEATING, a free online-only compilation featuring 27 New England punk, rock and heavy metal bands. Each act was hand selected to represent the pulse of the Boston area. From political battles and physical altercations to haunted houses and video games, STILL BEATING is a journey through the hearts and minds of New England’s underground music community.

Based in Jamaica Plain, TEENAGE HEART has a punk rock history with 15 physical releases and countless shows booked under their banner. For STILL BEATING, the label looked outside the box by adding doses of metal, hard rock and even folk to the compilation. “I initially wanted an even distribution of styles, so no one genre stood out above the rest,” executive producer Joshua Bottomley states. “STILL BEATING shows different sides of the underground music scene. In the future we want TEENAGE HEART to represent all of the hardworking and unsung musicians of Boston and beyond.” TEENAGE HEART founder Brian McCaffrey has similar sentiments, “These songs are the here and now of what's going on in our backyard. You can see these bands in small venues in the area for not a lot of money on almost any weekend night.” While many of the bands on STILL BEATING hail from The Hub, a few acts stretch into the outskirts of The Bay State into Connecticut and Rhode Island, making STILL BEATING a New England compilation.

Performer Magazine is a go-to-guide for independent musicians. It is with this ethos in mind that the publication paired up with the long-standing label. “To be involved in a project like this is right up our alley,” Performer’s editor-in-chief Benjamin Ricci comments. “For over 20 years, promoting independent and DIY artists is what Performer Magazine has been all about. We hope that [STILL BEATING] gives these artists the exposure they deserve, and introduces them to a new fanbase here in New England and around the country, as well."

New Hampshire is part of New England. I like that this comp has so many different styles of music on it.
