Dead Kennedys explain "Waking the Dead" cancellation

The Dead Kennedys have posted an explanation for dropping off the recently announced Waking the Dead show on October 29th show. The show was
originally scheduled to include the band as well as Suicidal Tendencies, Germs, Marky Ramone and Flipper who will share the stage at the Grand Olympic
Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. Filling in for the Dead Kennedys will be Los Angeles' natives, Fear.
The band objected primarily to the sponsorship by beer giant Coors, with guitarist East Bay Ray saying that:
Dead Kennedys have always been wary of corporate sponsorship and steer clear of lending our name to promote a product. Because we were not alerted to
the ultra conservative, right-wing sponsor for this event, we could not see a reason to go ahead and perform at this show in good conscience. Dead
Kennedys want nothing to do with this event or Coors and I am disgusted that they are now sponsoring punk shows, something they are politically at
odds with.
A Google search of Coors will turn up information on a company that for years has funded right-wing groups such as the Nicaraguan Contras, the
anti-gay Moral Majority, and the notoriously anti-punk Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC). Coors has also broken numerous unions, is
anti-environment, and has funded lawsuits against affirmative action.
Dead Kennedys apologize to their fans, but hope to serve as an example to the punk rock community that certain ideals shouldn't be sacrificed. The
band looks forward to playing an L.A. date in the near future to celebrate the 25th anniversary re-release of "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" and
encourages you to think before you drink?.Coors.
The Dead Kennedys will be re-releasing their debut, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables on October 25th

wasn't the bitch bewteen the band and jello about using the song in commmercials....corporate sponsorship of punk rock, we didn't get paid but didn't
write the songs what....
Coors sucks but guess what they like every other coporate entity give to both parties, some get a bigger check then others,
but when it comes to political favors you have to kiss both butt checks, cause you never know which asshole will win

no shit. I was gonna say that. They sued Jello's ass off because he wouldn't license the songs to car commercials and now they have values? I think
they owe Jello's fans an explanation (notice I didn't say their fans. mwwwhahahaha).

I dunno, I was reading some shit on their side of things recently and it looks to me like Jello screwed them at least as much as they supposedly
screwed him. Obviously I wasn't involved, but I'm not gonna jump to the same conclusion everybody always does and get on Jello's side. That guy annoys
the fuck out of me nowadays anyway.

I never saw them with Jello, but have seen them twice with Brandon Cruz and thought they were brilliant and twice with Jeff Penalty and thought they
were average. They should get Brandon Cruz back in the band and hit the road again.

yea, if there's one thing i've learned about the internet is that rumours and half truths become fact in a few hours. and jellos reputation for
dealing with bands on the label isn't stellar to begin with. im willing to bet they stood to make a pretty decent paycheck from this show, so based on
the only real info i know i give them credit for an ethical decision
