show prices
how much is too much for a punk/hardcore show? how do you feel about people making a living off of the music and has your opinion changed over the
years?

I think if you can make enough money to keep doing what you do, that's cool. I don't think anyone deserves as much money as some of these fuckers
make. As for a show, I wouldn't pay more than five bucks for a local show, 10 bucks for an out of town act.
Well, its this place where nobody works, and the pigs don\'t give you any shit. Everyone smokes weed and gets drunk all day. Its a place where
cunts like me and you can truly take it easy and relax. Know what I mean?

As for local bands, i think the most i ever paid was $20.00 (but that was an all day deal).
My boyfriend is in a band.. they don't get paid much at all but it's not a big deal to them. The only time i think money becomes an issue is if they
do a show thats out of state (gas, food, sleep).
Most local bands and a few signed ones put out more money than they make.
Have you ever noticed how crayons are a lot like M&M's? All the colors tend to taste the same.

The most I'll pay for a local show is $7 or $8. Out of town bands I'll go as high as $20 for bigger bands like Agnostic Front, but your average band
like $15.

Now that im actually thinking about it.... Are there any bands in punk/hardcore that have done well enough that they don't have to work anymore?.
Do they have enough money to be "making a living off of the music"?

Social D definitely, have you seen their ticket costs??? and merch?? everytime I've seen them sell out too, now figure in a venue that holds
1500 people @ 30.00 a head plus merch, they must pull down an easy 20,000 a night or so. Maybe I'm off, but thats what it looks like to me

I am ok with 15 bucks. Any more it's got to be a great lineup. t shirt prices 12 MAYBE 15. Its a shame too becasue i would love to hook u pbands that
make my life more liveable but I'm fucking poor. I got to save just like they do. If I made more money i would not mind paying a bit more but Damn
It's hard to swing $15 dollars door $12 on a shirt and $5 each for 3 beers. Before you know it your dropping $50 or $60 sut to see one band. Not to
mention gas to get their. But most bands got to get paid better. They are the ones leaving home and traveling and spending the nights in bunks and
eating shitty and spending the money they make at the rest stops. Life right now if tough on everyone.

Awesome topic. I would pay up to $25 for a out of town package of 3 bands plus a local. Local bands, I'd pay up to $15. I think it helps them get
started but I understand if others won't pay that.
I would buy shit loads of T's for $10. At $15 for a shirt, I begin to lose interest for some reason.
I feel like I owe it to these bands because they help me every day by being able to listen to their music. On top that, if they are nice people, I'm
more inclined to chip in (ie: B4B, SOIA, Biohazard, Hatebreed, Madball, Sworn Enemy...) All of those bands, I have been lucky enough to have a beer
with or somewhat hang with. All of them are very nice and were great.

I think there's probably quite a few
who are making a living off the music. I'm not talking about them being rich motherfuckers or anything like that, but I know a band or two that are
able to live off of what they make without the need for day jobs. Some friends of mine are in a fairly well known Punk band and I was talking to them
about their level of success and they brought up the fact that while they don't have to work to pay the rent and bills, they are holding onto part
time jobs to keep themselves grounded as well as a "just in case" type deal. The music world (especially Punk and HC) is a very fickle place to be
when it comes to responsibilities and such.

It depends on the town. For example, everything costs more in Boston than it does in West Virginia or something. When we do a local show in Boston we
charge $10 to get in. I know some other local bands who ask $12 or $15.

for me geographical isolation has a direct effect on my willingness to pay a ticket price. we don't get that many bigger bands in this part of the
country so when we do you don't want to miss it, whereas if i lived in a big city i might skip the show. i've found my opinion on the subject has
changed since getting older and having played in a touring band. it's really easy to say when you're 16 that bands you like (often quite a bit older
than you) should play for $5 because that makes sense to you at the time. now work shitty jobs for the next 10-15 years while trying to balance
touring in a band, it gets pretty difficult. i know i've spent wayyyyy more than i've made in this band over the years, it's not even close. i get a
kick out of it when people say shit like "you guys must be doing pretty well with a label and video and stuff". right.... it's pretty cool to see a
band like soia do really well while still retaining integrity. built to last is my favorite thing they ever did and it's a major label hardcore
record, now that's wild.

i feel like most shows around here are in the $10-$12 range with at least one national band playing. that's at like your cbgb, continental, knitting
factory, north six, etc. midsize venues like irving, roxy, or roseland that get bigger bands, will probably be in the $20-$25 range.
i mostly go to the $10 shows, and occasionally, the $20 shows, but i very rarely go to the cheaper shows comprised of just small local bands. i feel
bad about it sometimes, like i'm not 'supporting the scene' or whatever, but at 31 with two full time jobs and kid, i can't be expected to drag myself
halfway out to long island to listen to some bands i've never heard of before. besides the effort that goes into this label is support enough!
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

now as for the merch, i'm with chris, gimme a low door price and reasonable prices for merch, and i'll shop like a mother fucker once i'm inside.
most bands make more from that than anything else anyway.
i took my wife to see weezer and the foo fighters last weekend at the continental airlines arena, out by the giant's stadium... tickets were $40 each
BEFORE all the fees. the total for the tickets came to an even $100 for the two of us. $9 each for the r/t bus ride out there. shirts...
defstar, you reading this?! ...shirts were $25 for a one color, one sided T. proper color process t-shirts were $35. (no, we
didn't buy any of those!)
oh, and i gave up drinking at shows a LONG time ago. that is unless anya you are in a band and you come around... right gabe?

My girl bought us tickets for Social D tomorrow night at the TLA in Phila over the ineternet, came to something like 70+ (I had posted about this
before). Being's that social d is my favorite band ever, and she paid for it I'm not really gona complain but I think it's ridiculous for that much
for 2 tickets to a show that's not at a huge venue.

appreciated!
last week i got tickets for my wife to go see depeche mode at the garden. first off, i can't believe i'm actually going to this. if you told me when
i was 15 that i'd be going to a depece mode concert at any point in my life, ida killed YOU! anyway, after all the fees and what not, two tickets
came to $185. whatever, my wife isn't as into live music as i am, so when she gets excited about a show, i make sure we go.
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.
