Sick Of It All sign with Abacus records
Following months of rumors, legendary New York City hardcore band Sick Of It All have officially joined the Abacus Recordings roster. The group's
ninth full-length, titled "Death To Tyrants," will hit stores in early-2006. The effort will be recorded by Dean Baltulonis (Most Precious Blood) this
winter, while Tue Madsen (The Haunted) will handle mixing. According to SOIA drummer Armand Majidi, "Although the songs growl in a new way, they're
Sick of It All through and through, with something to offer all our fans from every era."

It's pretty much a hardcore sub-label to Century Media. They've put out some pretty cool stuff, and have cool people working there. Definitely a good
place for SOIA.

I heard that all the new Sick of it All songs are played in DROP D tuning. Could be good.... could be bad.... we will just have to wait and see!

Drop D tuning ("Dropped D" or drop-D) is a guitar tuning style in which the lowest (sixth) string is tuned ("dropped") to D rather than E as in
standard tuning. It may thus be represented, lowest string to highest, as DADGBE. As a result of this change, the bottom three strings form a D power
chord, which can be shifted up or down the fretboard with a single finger to produce any power chord quickly and easily. Drop-D also enables the
guitarist to play a whole tone lower than in standard tuning, and many artists value this deeper, fuller sound. Indeed, it is not uncommon for modern
rock and metal guitarists to play in "drop Db", standard C_Tuning or "drop C," lowering the sixth string a whole tone and then lowering every string
one or two semitones. Often this technique requires specially-made guitar strings.
Chords in drop-D tuning are formed as they are in standard tuning, with the exception of the sixth string, which is either omitted or fretted two
semitones higher.
It creates a heavier sound, but more in the vein of 'new metal' in some ways. To try and give you something to go with.... SLAPSHOT plays tuned to
standard E, BLOOD FOR BLOOD tunes to D (not drop D), KORN tunes to A (About as low as you can get). Im not sure what bands tune to Drop D.

I learn so many cool things on this board!
Have you ever noticed how crayons are a lot like M&M's? All the colors tend to taste the same.

Cannibal Corpse is dropped D, and yes Abacus should be a good label for them, hopefully

I personally like the sound of tuning to Eb (think motorhead) but have never really liked the dropped d sound, just made it too tempting to rely on
bad metal riffs. Some alternate tunings like dadgad have cool spooky/modal feels to them though.

A is pretty crazy (well LOW A at least). Take a 7 string guitar or a 5 string bass and tune the LOW B down to a LOW A. On a bass its barely audible,
it makes a clicking sound more than any actual bass sounds.

I got to ask THORP. and if you don't answer it's cool. Did THORP even have a heads up on the SICK OF IT ALL shopping around for a label? or was this
pretty hush, hush on SIOA's part? Did THORP give offers? I am going to assume SOIA comand a high dollar, but what do I know. Sounds like SOIA might
have had their minds made up for a while on this label because they have been talking aobut it for a while but for legal issues/whatever could not
disclose it.

I think that Hatebreed actually tunes to D like Biohazard, not just a drop D.

My bad. I get ya. D is all the strings tuned to each other so they can make powercords right? DROP D is jsut the bottome string tuned to D and the
rest are in E or whatever right?

it was somewhat widely known that they were looking for a new label, so yes. we've known they were working with century media since we ran into them
at a brain failure / dkm show back in the spring.

Yes D is with the bottom string tuned to D and all the others tuned to that string. Drop D Is with the bottom string as a D and the rest norma, but
there are some variations on what the other strings are tuned to.
