Death Cab for Cutie to Unveil 12 Videos
Death Cab for Cutie has plans for new "Directions."
Each song from the band's Grammy-nominated album, "Plans," has been made into a music video, adding up to an anthology of 12 short films titled,
"Directions."
The videos, created by 12 different directors, will be unveiled one by one on Death Cab for Cutie's Web site early next month, it was announced
Monday.
"It's our hope that this project serves as a model to both labels and bands as a way to grant the directors the type and amount of freedom we've
enjoyed in the creation of the music itself," frontman Ben Gibbard said in a statement.
Band members don't appear in the films, which were made with small budgets. The band hoped the videos would be both individual pieces and also work
together as a unified whole.
"Plans," the band's fifth album, has a Grammy nomination for best alternative album.
Death for Cutie will be the musical guest on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" on Jan. 14 with host Scarlett Johansson.

The very existence of flamethrowers proves that sometime, somewhere, someone said to themselves, ?You know, I want to set those people over there on
fire, but I?m just not close enough to get the job done.? George Carlin

I fucking LOATHE the stupid fuckin' names like this. What the fuck is shit like that supposed to mean? Death Cab For Cutie, Taking Back Sunday, all
that kinda shit drives me absolutely nuts. Why does anybody think these names are worthwhile? What is the fucking POINT of it? Years ago in Austin
there was a band called Fall Into The Sear And Yellow Leaf (actually, I think they were from a small town not too far from Austin, but whatever). I
could never stand that shit. Yes, I realize that particular name is part of a line from a Shakespeare play, but what the fuck does it have to do with
ANYTHING? I dunno how many people will get this, as I think part of this is a Texas thing, but we used to call them "Foley's and Sears Are Really
Neat" as they were not only a ridiculous emo band, but had the whole retarded fashion thing going on and Foley's is a big mall store (I'm sure you're
all familiar with Sears).

Dude, there are plenty of stupid band names out there that aren't "emo." Just cause you don't like the name doesn't make it a bad name. I could name
a bunch of punk and hardcore bands with absolutely shitty names that may or may not play music.

Oh, believe me, I'm VERY aware that there are tons of bands with abso-fuckin-lutely HORRIBLE names that play in a shit-ton of different genres and
styles, some of which I may even like or possibly even love. My point here was about emo-type names. If you wanna get into terrible band names in
general we can start a brand new thread just for that.
As for the comment about it being bad because I don't like it, I disagree. What makes a band name good or bad? It's a completely subjective issue.
Yes, there are some general guidelines that may help a band pick a name that's better than another name, but I wasn't speaking in terms of
marketability or anything like that. What I meant by a "bad name" in my previous comment was a name that immediately brought images of floppy haired,
make-up wearing, emo-playing, snooty little scenesters to mind. I wasn't trying to speak in black and white terms, this isn't about world changing
matters, it's just another case of idiots and my reaction to them.
