...about this Thorp Board weightloss idea
First off, let me know right now if you are at all interested in doing this.
If enough of you are, here's how I'm thinking we might organize things. This will require some volunteers, so hold on!
- I'd like some of our more physically fit members to put together some resources for the rest of us slobs. Links to downloadable files, reputable
sites with nutrition and exercise info, etc. We can always host stuff if needed. Maybe ChrisReed83, Andy King, and someone else?
- As for the workout music... if you want to use Thorp tracks OTHER than what we have up on the MP3 page, I'll have to speak with Andy. If we do go
that route, maybe we'll make a private zip file for the participants to download, or maybe someone will be generous enough to make cds.
newbreedbrian or XHonusWagnerX, would either of you start a thread polling people to see what tracks they'd like on a workout mix?
Let's do a list of Thorp tracks and non-Thorp tracks.
A few questions....
- Should this be a contest to see who can loose the greatest percentage of body weight? Or should we just set a total amount as a goal for everyone
involved? Like, "The Thorp Board is 250 pounds lighter"!
- What sort of time frame do we set? Six months? And how often do we do weigh ins? Weekly? Monthly?
- I think this might require a dedicated forum (in addition to 'General' and 'Hate'). If anyone participating would prefer that to be a private
forum, restricted to participants and maybe interested regulars, please send me a U2U. Otherwise, it will be open to the public.
Any other thoughts or questions? I'm really into this idea. Enough of us talk about loosing weight, to too few ever do anything about it. Who would
have thought a hardcore board would turn into a health and fitness support group?!
One last, but very important thing...
PLEASE CONSULT WITH YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE YOU TAKE ON ANY SIGNIFICANT DIETARY CHANGES OR START NEW A EXERCISE PROGRAM.
If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.

I have some info that I can put together that I can e-mail over to you BD, if you'd like. Since people are some what all over the place with weight,
I'd vote for the "Thorp Board is XX pounds lighter". I think a monthly update and shoot for a goal amount in 3 months, 6, 9 and 1 year. We could all
be the Biggest Losers
Just let me know if I can help.

i have no interest in losing weight - only eating more steaks and gaining more muscle. Fat is just a necessary by-product of that process that i am
willing to accept!

ok, then you can supply muscle-gaining theories to the new forum.
perhaps you'll enlighten the masses with your D.A.D. program!

I'm in, but I vote for either total board loss or some kind of individual goal thing as opposed to body weight percentage.

yeah, i guess competing against one another isn't really the point, is it? i think setting individual goals, then keeping a running tally of who
meets their goal and the total weight lost will be cool.

i like the idea of a total thorp weight lost. contests surrounding weight loss are a really bad idea. everybodys body is different and reacts
differently to diet and exercise. start small, cut down on take out first. you'll save alot of money and lose weight in the process. try not to eat
big meals late at night, especially high carb stuff. carbs are great in the first half of the day but if you don't use 'em your body stores them as
fat overnight. for those interested in weight training check out this book, it's amazing and you can do alot of stuff at home with a simple set of
weights:
yes'em
as for music, fuck man whatever personally pumps you up is right. i have a mix of agnostic front/negative approach/black flag etc which is great for
when i'm not really feelin like doing it. best of luck everyone and just like quitting smoking you really have to want to do it
The very existence of flamethrowers proves that sometime, somewhere, someone said to themselves, ?You know, I want to set those people over there on
fire, but I?m just not close enough to get the job done.? George Carlin

Well I WANT to lose the weight. What is a healthy time frame to lose weight. I know it differs with everybody but UNIVERSALY we can realistically lose
about what 1 lb a week?
1. Thats 4 pounds a month
2. and 12 pounds in 3 months
3. and 24 pounds in 6 months.
I think all of us would benefit from this. Its not a crazy impossible # and it is definintely achieveable with a normal everyday lifestyle. With 24
pounds gone how does everyone think they would look? Now I got to lose more but this is a huge step in this process. The reason most people give up
the excercise is they do not see superfast results. If we are dedicated for 6 months imagine the benefit of 1 full year of 48 lbs......You can still
have that drink. You can still have that steak. But if we got goals set you can learn moderate and have discipline. I am all for this. I got to lose
this weight. I want to order a THORP shirt as a large.
As for the Dedicated Forum. What about the name?
"The Year It Goes Off" or "The Challenge"

i was an even 250, wearin' 40s for years. then something happened, and i jumped up to 270. fitting into most 44s is tough. sucks going into the gap,
looking the chart of available sizes, and realizing that your in the shaded area at the far end that represents items that have to be ordered on line.
it's like screaming, "you're too fat to shop in this store!"

I am 240 even as of 4 days ago and I wear a size 40 pant. I just admnitted it right now. I refused to say 40. I have been a 38 to everyone for like 3
years now. Shop fro a pair of pants and take 2 days? Well I did trying to find a size 38 because I refused to admit it. Hows that for denial? Believe
it or not I found a pair. Its the only 2 pair of jeans I've been wearing for the past year and these fuckers are getting tight.
