The First Unitarian Church in Philly

I vaguely rememebr when shows first started happening there - maybe in the late 90s? - but I've never been there. Have any of you? How big is this place? Isn't this in like a nice neighborhood? Anyway, they seem to have a TON of shows scheduled, and I'm pleasantly surprised by this.

Its a good venue.

Not like Troc big, but it holds a good crowd. Imagine a really big firehall with a stage, thats the set up it reminds me of. FSU usually runs security there, not many problems.

I think the Church is my favorite non-club venue ever.

They probably started having shows around 1995. I saw so many bands there from 95 to around 99(whenever Robby stopped doing them there). I felt like I was there at least twice a month back then.

I am so bad a estimating crowd sizes, but I'm sure it could have 250-300 people.

The neighborhood is pretty decent. I've always just parked on Chestnut or one of the surrounding streets, never had any problems. There's a WaWa a block down too.

The only time Ive been there was to see Turmoil and whoever else played. All Else Failed and the Promise were two others. It's a large place. Not bad.

The Church is great. And that Madball show was amazing.

Good sound, holds alot of people. It's a great venue, and really it seems it's the only place that's even giving a chance to hardcore and punk on the scale this place is in Philly.

Should definitely check out that Will to Live/Strength for a Reason show on Feb 19.

The place is only a couple blocks from Rittenhouse Square, so while it's not in the ghetto, it's not really in the super upscale... it's safe. Last time I was there, there was a hilarious drunk bum hanging out outside trying to bum a smoke off the FSU kids and checking out all the 15 year old girls walking by.

When Shattered Realm and the Hoods played there back in November there must have been like 400 kids packed in there.

there are a lot of good looking shows coming up there, but most of the ones i'd want to see are on sunday nights and i'm not around. crappy.

Wednesday February 1st: Some Girls, Ed Gein
Sunday February 19th: Hoods, Pale Horse, Will To Live
Friday March 17th: Anal Cunt
Sunday March 25th: Comeback Kid, Ignite, First Blood, This Is Hell

I saw AC at Kyber like 10 years ago, it was insane. They were playing with Eye Hate God who my friend wanted to see and I think Strakweather played, so I went for the hell of it.
Anyways, during AC sets, the singer picked up a trash can and started through it all over the place. Then he took a fire extinguisher off the wall and sprayed the entire thing. The Kyber filled up with fumes and everyone had to get out because you couldn't breathe.
I was pretty annoyed at the time, but I can look back now and laugh about it.
