Oprah on XM radio - $1,000,000 per show!

Oprah just signed to XM radio to have her own station. Her deal is 3 years for $55 Million Dollars. The ONLY thing that she will be doing on her channel is ONE show for A HALF HOUR PER WEEK! She will also only be working 39 weeks per year. Her radio show will be her and another friend having a conversation on the phone that they have every week and think that other people would be interested in. When you do the math that works out to be ...

39 weeks per year @ 3 years is 117 weeks.
117 weeks divided by 1/2 hour per week is 58.5 hours over 3 years
$55 Million dollars divided by 58.5 hours = $940,000 per show!

They are also building a brand new full radio studio for her in Chicago.... FUCKING INSANE!

HERES THE ARTICLE...

A year ago, Oprah Winfrey admittedly didn't know what satellite radio was.

Now, after signing a three-year, $55 million deal with XM Satellite Radio, she's at the helm of the "Oprah & Friends" radio channel.

The pay channel will launch in September and feature far more friends than Oprah. She signed on to host a weekly 30-minute taped "reality radio" program with her best friend, Gayle King.

'This is really about my friends'

The rest of the programming will feature shows with people such as Bob Greene, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Dr. Robin Smith, Marianne Williamson and Nate Berkus.

"For the most part, this is really about my friends," Winfrey said Thursday.

One friend who won't have a part in the Chicago-based channel is Philip "Dr. Phil" McGraw.

"I've already done my Phil time," Winfrey joked.

Winfrey's 30-minute program will air 39 weeks a year. She also plans to "pop in" on her friends' shows and have a daily role in planning the overall programming, which will focus on lifestyles, health, fashion, culture and current events.

'A big day for XM'

The $55 million is XM's full expenditure for the three-year partnership with Winfrey.

"This is a big day for XM," said company president and CEO Hugh Panero. "We are simply ecstatic about this new partnership."

Winfrey, who did a radio program in high school, will discuss details of the new channel on her television program today, but noted she is not contractually obligated to promote XM on the TV show, in her magazine or elsewhere.

Aligning with Winfrey and her legions of loyal followers is XM's latest move in its fight with rival Sirius Satellite Radio, which hitched its wagon to Howard Stern with a five-year deal now worth an estimated $600 million.

Each service costs about $13 a month and offers dozens of commercial-free music channels as well as talk and news. XM has about 6 million subscribers, roughly double Sirius' base.

'Just us talking'

Winfrey said during a Thursday teleconference that "we have until September" to figure out the format of her show, but she did say it will reflect her typical chats with longtime friend King.

"Gayle and I have said for years it's a shame other people couldn't be in on the conversation sometimes," Winfrey said. "It will be about what's going on in the world, and just us talking about it the way we talk about it, as girlfriends. . . . I think that Gayle and Oprah reality radio is going to be a huge hit."

Winfrey acknowledged she didn't know what satellite radio was until music legend Quincy Jones talked it up to her in recent years. Jones told her "how XM is it, baby, XM is it," she said, so she arranged for a tour over the summer and started talking business.

"When I first showed up, I was just trying to figure out what it was," she said.

With a hand in TV, radio, publishing and movies, Winfrey was asked if politics might be next.

"I can definitely tell you, there are no political aspirations for me," she said. "I would almost venture to say, never, ever will that ever happen for me. . . . I just want this to work and who knows what's ahead."
