Boycott of "25 To Life"

House Democrats support boycott of `25 to Life' video game

The Associated Press

LANSING, Mich. (AP) ? Democrats in the state House joined a national law enforcement group Monday in calling for a boycott of a video game called "25 to Life."

Critics say the game encourages players to kill police officers. The boycott is led by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, which says it has collected more than 220,000 signatures protesting the game released in January.

House Democrats held Monday media events in Adrian, Lansing, Milan, Monroe, Port Huron, Royal Oak and Sault Ste. Marie. Police or sheriff's department representatives were involved in each announcement.

"In many cases, this game will land in the hands of our kids ? who are already bombarded by violence," House Minority Leader Dianne Byrum, D-Onondaga, said at the Lansing event. "Violence in the virtual world infects our children in the real world."

Rep. Kathy Angerer, D-Dundee, said she will introduce a resolution this week in the state House in support of the boycott.

Messages seeking comment were left Monday with officials from Eidos Interactive Ltd. in San Francisco, a division of the game's United Kingdom-based maker, Eidos.

The game allows players to play as either law officers or gangsters. It is rated "mature" for blood and gore, drug references, intense violence, sexual themes and language.

Last year, Michigan lawmakers passed legislation to bar retailers from selling or renting violent video games to minors. The law was blocked from taking effect while a lawsuit against it continues in federal court.

The Entertainment Software Association, Video Software Dealers Association and the Michigan Retailers Association filed the suit, saying the law is constitutionally vague and limits First Amendment rights.

Matt Resch, spokesman for Republican House Speaker Craig DeRoche of Novi, said the legislation passed last year is the more effective way to address the video game violence issue.

"We hope the attorney general can win in court to uphold" the legislation, Resch said.

Ya I had no idea it was true though.

Each aspect of the soul has it's own part to play, but the ideal is harmonious agreement with reason and control.

All this will do is make people buy the game even more. Hell, I have never checked out the game but will probably go rent it due to the controversy to see what it's all about (as will alot of people)

Damn. I was hoping people had finally gotten on board with my boycott of everything that has the slightest connection to that ridiculous band.
