First that whiny fuck complains about how the Pistols weren't let in first before the Ramones and The Clash, and now that he's getting in, he refuses to go. I love The Sex Pistols...but someone should shoot him. He's so fucking annoying.

No, I figured. I didn't mean my response to come off as assholish. I just want to know what the point is? Lydon is a confusing character. Personally, in my opinion, though I like their album, the only thing they did for punk was get noticed first. They weren't special in any way. I think they never should have been inducted.

here's how i see it.............

no one, not one band, has lived up to what the pistols were at the time
no one got to that level of what, at the time, was considered a legit threat to society in general
people in england were really afraid of them and the "movement" at the time, like it was a real threat to their way of life
rotten was stabbed on the street for making "god save the queen"
i cant think of another example of something as extreme as that happening any other time before or since

rotten never wanted the pistols in the hall of fame
he complained about how more "friendly" bands like the ramones and the clash were ok to be in but they were not

the hall of fame, knowing the pistols would not go, put them in this year for the hype it would cause and the interest it would draw
lydon is not a stupid man buy any stretch
he knows full well why they were put in this year and he played along
why not?
he has done nothing but talk shit on the hall of fame for years and in my opinion rightfully so
he is playing the game with them
its a chance for him to get on a few shows and talk shit about the music industry
im sure he finds the whole thing alot of fun

i totally dissagree with that
they were what punk should have been at the time
not some shitbag "art" movement out of new york(ramones and dead boys aside"
but really the ramones were playing to 50 drunks at cbs for the most part
america didnt care
they(ramones) went to england and did what should have happened here
inspired people and helped the "movement" as a whole
here, no one cared
there, it mattered

there'd be no pistols if it weren't for the Ramones, in my opinion. The Clash were never politically friendly either. Strummer just never got stabbed on the street. The Pistols were put together by one guy to do one thing, sell records. It doesn't make them special at all. From all I've heard from Lydon and read, the guy just likes to complain. Maybe he never wanted to be in the HOF, but complaining that the pistols weren't in and then getting inducted and bitching about it seems stupid to me. if it's some sort of politicial/cultural stance, i wish he'd just keep it to himself and stop reuniting the pistols for $$.

ill tell ya this
i saw the pistols last time around
it was one of the best thing i EVER saw

i agree about the ramones
but the pistols took it to the next level

i cant get into the mcclaren thing now
too long
but much of that history is so wrong
which is also one of rottens biggest issues with the hall of fame and the industry
they got it all wrong

I agree with that. Just dont forget about all the shit Jello Biafra got and how they tore his house apart and killed his cat because of the 'Penis Landscape' poster that came with the original Frankenchrist LP.

Theres also all the shit Mike Muir had with secret service and investigations for 'I shot the devil'.

Those are not as drastic as what the Pistols created, but they shouldnt be forgotten.

No one can hold a candlestick to Lydon. Seriously he is so bad ass it hurts him. Everyhting he does is awsome. Even the interviews. I bet his shits are huge punkrock shits that smell really fowl.

LOL.... Its kind of funny I have the exact oposit view of Lydon. I think Johnny Rotten is a character that John Lydon plays when ever hes in the public eye at all. Johnny Rotten is truely Punk as fuck... but I think John Lydon is a perfect gentlemen who drinks has tea and crumpets at 3:00pm with his monther like every good Englishmen. I think hes just an aswesome actor.

I have a ton of interviews of him on video with PIL and he goes by LYDON and is the same if not MORE obnoxious than his earlier years. Now since he's older he won't tolerate shit at all. Especially around the time he released the album 9. dude blew up so many times in every single interview. An act. ya I would say so. He is legendary for them. Shit even MTV made a collage(spelling) of his outburst about 5 years ago. I think it would be entertaining to be his neighbor. The arguments would be crazy.

I also have an interview of him in his home. A very nice all maple wood livingroom with a huge grand piano. He was talking it up about how his image made all this happen. "Why stop now?"

Whether it be under Rotten or Lydon, he still has an image and I think that's what Josh meant. Maybe the Ramones didn't take it to the "level" that the Pistols did, but for my money, The Ramones and The Clash took punk further then the Pistols did. I like them. I just think people place too much importance on them as THE punk band while I don't. But...we're all entitled to personal opinion.

At least he's honest about it. I saw them play on their Filthy Lucre reunion back in the mid to late 90's and they were fucking great. They were totally up front about doing it for the money. Their reasoning was that they didn't make much of anything off it the first time around, so why not try jump on the reunion bandwagon and earn some bucks. If they had said it was all for the fans I would've called bullshit, bu they admitted it was for money and I respect the honesty. They deserve to make some money off of the influence they've had on the music industry.
