Texans are arrested for public drunkenness... IN BARS!?

Texas arresting people in bars for being drunk

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Reuters) - Texas has begun sending undercover agents into bars to arrest drinkers for being drunk, a spokeswoman for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission said on Wednesday.

The first sting operation was conducted recently in a Dallas suburb where agents infiltrated 36 bars and arrested 30 people for public intoxication, said the commission's Carolyn Beck.

Being in a bar does not exempt one from the state laws against public drunkenness, Beck said.

The goal, she said, was to detain drunks before they leave a bar and go do something dangerous like drive a car.

"We feel that the only way we're going to get at the drunk driving problem and the problem of people hurting each other while drunk is by crackdowns like this," she said.

"There are a lot of dangerous and stupid things people do when they're intoxicated, other than get behind the wheel of a car," Beck said. "People walk out into traffic and get run over, people jump off of balconies trying to reach a swimming pool and miss."

She said the sting operations would continue throughout the state.

Yeah, Texas doesn't fuck around when it comes to alcohol laws. I've taken so many classes that deal with the laws from working in places that sell alcohol over the years.

Isn't a bar considered a Private place? Privatly owned, etc...?

I think they should watch the drunks leave to see if they get in a car and bag them the second they get in the drivers seat.

Being drunk = not a problem
drinking n driving = problem

yes bars are considered privately owned but also fall under the respective states liquor laws, and apparently like the Saint said.........Texas does not fuck around. I totally agree with what you said man, dont fuck with someone if they are tyin one on and then walk homne or whatever, but definitely wait by the parking lot to see how many dipshits get into their cars smashed and try to drive off, nail em no problem. I would be royally pissed if I was one of those bar owners, they are basically scaring the clientelle away, that is fucked up.

after living in cities for so long (where you have the benefit of syumbling home), the whole concept of going out, drinking, then driving home is just insane to me. now that we live in the suburbs, if we go out to dinner, i have maybe one drink if i'm driving home. to me, there's no shame in ordering up a cab if you're wasted, but there aren't even any late night cab services out here. one good thing i see is people's cars in bar parking lots first thing in the morning. obviously, there are some people out there who when they need a ride home!

If I fail math, there goes my chance at a good job and a happy life full of hard work.
